Researching my 386 tower I rescued has revealed I have an FX-3000 board that can take a multitude of CPU types, 386 and 486.

- 8-30 pin SIMM slots (1-32meg FPM DRAM)
- 1-32bit MCA Local Bus slots
- 6-16bit ISA slots
- 64-256k cache support in 8-28pin sockets + 1 TAG RAM sockets
- AMI/Award Bios
- C & T / OPTi Chipset
- Supports 80386DX,80487SX/80486SX/DX/DX2 at 25/33/40/50/66MHz

My first question is regarding cache. I tried searching but my eyes glazed over.
I found this in the motherboard sheet I found online

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Size Max Cachable Bank 0 Bank 1 TAG
--------------------------------------------------------------------
64KB 16MB (4) 8Kx8 (4) 8Kx8 (1) 8Kx8
128KB 32MB (4) 32Kx8 NONE (1) 8Kx8
256KB 64MB (4) 32Kx8 (4) 32Kx8 (1) 32Kx8

It has 128k of cache ram that shows up on boot up. The chips are W24257AK-20
One is a 9310 the other three are 9315s

I need this exact type of chip to upgrade to the 256K, right?

I see TAG RAM is UM6164BK-20

I know (I think)I need to change this.. but to what? an identical chip as the other 8?

I'm going for a 386 on steroids, like I would have wanted when I was 11 in 1991. 😎

Insert Witty Sig Here.
