May you name games where GF4 needs special settings to show correctly, but where GF3 did not need them? For win9x games wich drivers were used there?

I tried all the 4X series of drivers. And the games I had problem with, was NFS-Proche and UT99.
NFS had this thing of showing the texts in the game-menu incorrecty, wich were solved by setting AAx2.
FX-5200 wich I then tried, had to have AA set to AAx4 in order for it to disapear.

UT99 had some issues too. It would render wall lamps incorrectly and in facing world's, the tower's would be
renderen incorrectly when looking at them from a distance. Actually, vertical lines on walls and structures would
be rendered incorrectly from a distance in a lot of levels.
On a GF4 I would strongly recommend updating with all patches and setting AAx2 as a minimum.

GF2 will render correctly, TNT2 will render correctly and even a card like Radeon9600 and 9800's will render
correctly. The 9xxx cards would need UT99 to be patched with all the official patches.

Special setting's are ment with enabling AA, yet that comes at a cost, wich is lack of speed on older PC's.
For some people, AA is not a "special feature", yet for me it is, as the drivers do not enable as a default.
You could say the same for disabling v-sync, if you go by this context.

Hope this clears up something. 😀

Seems like UT99 on GF3 was not tried. Wich GF2 model had no issies?
Also someones report drivers 30.82 have less issues than 4x.x, what may to be altrernative for GF4.

Hmmm... Never tried 30-series with GF4 though.
I tried it on the only GF2 that I had at that moment, the GF2-GTS.

BTW I've had success with UTGLR all the way down to GeForce 256. It works on Win98 too if you get UTGLR 3.4. It's so much improved over the D3D option.

And also I've been playing KISS Psycho Circus and found that 45.23 on FX 5900 has quite a number of problems. I've been using 77.72 instead.

Is that not the fully patched version?

No the latest UGLR won't run on 98. Version 3.4 can be found in the news archive (http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/newsarchive.html).

As GF3 is similar to GF4, then same problems in UT99 may exist with it too. This may be checked sometimes.

In Stalwart, the lamps on the wall are rendered like they are shattered. They just look off.

In Facing Worlds, the towers have wrong rendered vertical lines and sometimes wrong colors, that can be seen from the middle of the map untill allmost up close.

Oblivion has some issues, though minor...

In Fractal, it will render the yellow light's on the elevators wrong, when seen from a distance, and render correct from a distance. All depending on how you move around on the platform were the elevators rises up to.

Stalwart, Facing Worlds, etc
UT99 (wich version?) maps with issues on GF3 with 4x.x drivers ? or it's for GF4 too ?
In similar way these maps have no issues on GF2 GTS, and these issues may be fixed by setting AA 2x ?

Probably would be good to create a thread with 3D cards and drivers compatibility data in Win9x games, ways to solve these issues.

Sounds like a thing to go by, yet I think that it will be better to make some kind of spreadsheet of some sort.
Not only for UT99, yet for every DX6/7/8 games out there. It might be, that DX7 games have a higher tendency
to have issues on newer systems. It is though, just I feeling that I have, and have nothing to back it up with as
of now. I don't have the energy eighter, to go digging for "why" and "how" to solve glitches with all them games.
(Don't have all the hardware too)

The version of UT99 that I had issues with, are the first edition. Most issues have been solved by updating with
the following updates/patches: All bonus pack and update 4.36.
Then using GF-Cards no faster than GF2, Radeon9600/9800 and Matrox-G400 wich is the fastest Matrox that I have.
It might just be me, wanting it to run as issueless as possible. Just, when I see a small glitch, I really want it to go away.
The game is perfectly playable with these glitches/issues, and I have only seen it on structures.

Besides cards and game, drivers affect the compatibility too. Concrete model of a card may to work better with one drivers, another model with other drivers. Game's version may affect. Card's variations of different producers, revisions, other hardware in PC, OS and its patches, settings in video driver, etc Pray&Play PC stuff.
