to explain the problem, first i need to post the old results that i did on 815e+p3s-1.4g platform years ago:
3dmark2000 default: 3550pts
3dmark01 default: 1650pts
quake3 high 800*600: 48fps
quake3 max 1024*768: 30fps

and when i tested it on via pt880+e5200 oc 3.33g yesterday, all went well until the last quake3 max test:
3dmark2000 default: 3650pts
3dmark01 default: 1950pts
quake3 high 800*600: 47fps ?
quake3 max 1024*768: 12fps !!!

we can see that 3dmark improved by quite a bit thanks to the fast cpu, but quake3 high is almost the same as before, probably because it was already at full capacity on the p3s platform. however, the max 1024*768 test stuttered terribly. my analysis is that at this setting it needs a lot of texture swapping through agp texturing, and thats what via chipsets may fail in.

however, when i put on the tnt2ultra, it didn't suffer such a degradation in the quake3 max test, and ran at the same smooth 32fps as on the 815 platform. so, is it just sort of incompatibility between the card and board? and has anyone tried g400/max on via boards?
