Hi there,

long time since last time i passed by ^^'
I was rechecking my "retro hardware" lately and noticed that an athlon thunderbird CPU i have laying around has lost 2 of the 4 rubber feets on its top.
Looking on google i have found that those feets were there for protecting the core from cracking while mounting the heatsink.

Anyone with some Socket A/462 experience does know if it can be mounted even without those rubber feets on? How?
It would be a shame to crack the CPU core for something like that.

Thanks in advance for the answers 😀

P.S: i have read about existing CPU shims/spacers, but cant found any on ebay. So i would need an alternative solution, even DIY 😀

Yeah you can still mount a heatsink - some of them don't even contact those feet, like some of the Thermalright models. TIM or a thermal pad can help to protect the die. Shims are also a very good idea in general.

Something like is what you need:

Thank you for the answer 😁

from the shim images it looks like they are for athlon XPs, do you think they would be compatible with thunderbirds too? Dont wanna risk a short circuit, since they seems to be made of a metallic material 😁

Same package, should be no problem as long as they clear the bridges and they probably should. Socket 370 shims should fit too.
