I really wanted to see the differences between these cpu`s for myself so i spent some time benching.

This may be in no way a complete picture but it gives some extra insight in the performances of the cpu`s in some situations....

My favorite retro machine is my p5a with k6-3+@600 with 12mb v2 sli, even tough my p1 mmx with v1 is more compatible with old 3dfx games and my p3 with v3 is way faster....

Tested cyrix MII-300GP, Intel 200mmx , k6-2 400 and k6-3+ on Asus p5a, 128mb pc-100 cl2, voodoo3 2000 pci
Tested p2-450 on Asus p3b-f, 128mb pc-100 cl2, voodoo3 2000 pci.

cyrix was not stable at 2,5x 100 and k6-2 can not do 2x multi (reads as 6x on this cpu series) unfortunately... and 3dmark 99 obviously doesn`t like cyrix cpu 😐 and LOVES k6-2`s 3dnow!

I thought this was fun to do and gives me a pretty clear picture even tough by reading i new the most already, it still shocks me here and there...

The cyrix is REALLY slow at fpu, it gets helped a lot by the voodoo3 in a game.
K6-2 can compete in fpu with the mmx, but only when it is clocked significantly higher.
Fpu mandel test is most important for games, and that is where the intel mmx and p2 just shines.

Integer both amd and cyrix really rock!

Never thought that my favorite k6-3+ was THIS far behind a p2-450, it can barely hold it`s own against a p300 (100fsb) in games i guess....only in 3dnow! applications it is blazing fast, it is just a shame there are so few of them that use it properly!

A voodoo3 2000 or v2 sli setup is a pretty balanced match for an overclocked k6-3 but only when you use it for 1024x768 (or higher).
800x600 or lower the cpu becomes a bottleneck pretty quick and here a p2-400 or faster is a much better choice. For voodoo3 3000 or faster p3 is the best way for a balanced system.

just my 500.000 cents..... 😀

Hey, cool benchmarks.

The wiki handles this kind of thing much better, so I've posted this information there so that it is easier to see:
http://www.vogonswiki.com/index.php/CPU_Benchmarks

You might need to check my work though! 3dmark for Cyrix MII 2x100 seem wrong/off?

P2 300 to P2 450 is a nice jump in speed, pretty close to clock for clock increase.

thanx!

i thought the cyrix was off too but it scores normal in integer i guess and bios supported it fine so should be running ok?
100mhz fsb did nothing for the cyrix`s fpu but made a small change in integer.

3dmark just doesn`t like the cyrix so that is definitively wrong, the game bench shows that a voodoo doesn`t need much of a cpu to run but needs a strong cpu to run fast.....
