Set up my new XP build:

- Some odd white ATX case with a temp display on the front - the old PC shop in town used to use them all the time.
- Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4
- Athlon 64 X2 5000+
- 2 GB OCZ Gold DDR2 RAM (2x1)
- BFG Geforce 7950 GT OC 512 MB
- Audigy 2

I'm using the SLI board because I know I have a second 7950 GT *somewhere*. Think I can find it though?

Decided to move some of my systems around only to have the face plate on my IBM Aptiva system exploded into pieces on me giving me a nasty scratch on my wrist, a bit of blood. Apparently those plastics Do Not Age Well, shame though as that is my only Opti Viper system.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

I attempted to push my Voodoo 3 3000 PCI to 200/200. Highest I got was 195/195. Looks to be a nice overclock based on my brief Google search.

Started the major task of cleaning up my 'study', with the aim to have at least 1 desk reasonably clear of computer gear. Also have an idea of making my study a small 'cinema' now that the Toshiba TLP-411 projector is set up at the rear of the room.

Of course, I didn't finish the clean up. Too many distractions of bits and pieces I find as I clean up!

Created a Commodore64 composit cable from scratch. Was nice to solder again. 😜
And my C64 is working. 😀 Not bad considering that it was bought untested and listed as "not working".
This is only a temporary thing, as I just wanted to test the machine out as cheap as I could.
The image quality is not that great on a homemade cable or I did something like not shielding good enough.
Anyway.... It's working. Hurray. 😀

Next step is to get a hold of one of those SD2IEC adaptors and two joysticks.
And I have to look into what converters are good enough, as I want to go the S-Video to VGA route.

Just tested the voices on my C64 with this small code (I found it on another forum). And they are working great...
I have posted it in order for other Vogon member, if anyone are interested. 😀

Code:
10 FORL=54272TO54296:POKEL,0:NEXT:POKE54296,15:GOSUB60
20 POKEW,17:POKEA,9:POKEHF,15:POKELF,35:POKES,128:GOSUB50:GOSUB70
30 POKEW,17:POKEA,9:POKEHF,20:POKELF,40:POKES,128:GOSUB50:GOSUB80
40 POKEW,17:POKEA,9:POKEHF,25:POKELF,50:POKES,128:GOSUB50:GOTO10
50 FORX=1TO2000:NEXTX:RETURN
60 W=54276:A=54277:HF=54273:LF=54272:S=54278:RETURN
70 W=54283:A=54284:HF=54280:LF=54279:S=54285:RETURN
80 W=54290:A=54291:HF=54287:LF=54286:S=54292:RETURN

Too late now.... Tomorrow I will test the filters with this code below (Found on that forum too)

Code:
10 poke54296,15+32 :rem filters: +16=low-pass, +32=band-pass, +64=high-pass
20 forv=1to3:print:print"voice";v:forl=54272to54295:pokel,0:next
30 onvgosub80,90,100:pokehf,15:pokelf,35:pokehp,8:pokelp,0:pokea,9:pokes,128
40 pokew,65:poke54295,2^(v-1)+128:forp=0to1
50 forf=0to2047step9:gosub70:next:forf=2047to0step-9:gosub70:next:next:next
60 forl=54272to54296:pokel,0:next:end
70 printf;"{left} {up}":poke54294,f/8:poke54293,fand7:return
80 w=54276:a=54277:s=54278:hf=54273:lf=54272:hp=54275:lp=54274:return
90 w=54283:a=54284:s=54285:hf=54280:lf=54279:hp=54282:lp=54281:return

I accidentally murdered a 6800GT AGP trying to repair a capacitor issue. Bridged something by accident. Loud Pop. Horrible noise. No more 6800 i assume.

I found enough time to do the second ST-251, at first it looked like it has ton of bad sectors and bad bearings, but the first was sorted out by using correct interleave and the second by letting the drive run and lube itself. So now I have second fully working ST-251 with NO bad sectors! Yaays! 😁

Well, not really, but the bearings rolled over few hundred times and the lubricant that was put there when the bearing was made got evenly distributed all around 🤣

Finished configuring both my HP Compaq 8510w (sort of retro, ish) and modern HP EliteBook 8570p.

Pictures of both machines http://imgur.com/a/n03an

Picked up these two machines... sold my 8470p for a 8570p and just swapped out the drives. Wanted 1080p screen but still a well built laptop with good keyboard, touchpad, and plenty of ports.

Let’s start with the HP Compaq 8510w. This machine is from 2008, picked it up for less than $60 shipped as a complete system via eBay! Added in more RAM and awaiting an SSD for it. T8300 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, 320GB 7200RPM HD, 15.4" 1920x1200 (!!!) screen, NVIDIA Quadro FX570M 256MB. VGA, power, Kensington lock, ethernet, Firewire 400, HDMI, 2xUSB 2.0, SD card reader, PCMCIA slot, SmartCard reader, Audio in/out jacks, 2xUSB 2.0, DVD/RW drive, modem jack. Decent keyboard and touchpad... fingerprint reader is a nice bonus. You can still use XP very well in 2017 provided you do an unofficial hack to get updates and stay protected. Honestly, if you surf smartly you’ll be fine. Also Vista+newer don’t support the Yamaha softsynth I use for MIDI.

And the 8570p, a bit scratched and banged up but for under $300 total you can’t go wrong... especially considering the hardware. i7 3740QM quad core, 8GB RAM, 256GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD + 320GB 7200RPM HD in 2nd bay (replaced DVD drive with SATA caddy), 15.6" 1920x1080, AMD RADEON HD7570M 1GB. modem jack, serial port ??? in a 2013 laptop? displayport, 2x USB 2.0, Firewire 400, eSATA/USB 2.0 combo, VGA, expresscard, SD card reader, smartcard reader, Audio in/out jacks, 2x USB 3.0, 2nd bay HD caddy with 320GB 7200RPM HD in it, ethernet, Kensington lock. Decent keyboard but the arrow buttons are too small. Touchpad is glass and glorious.

HP Z420 Workstation Intel Xeon E5-1620, 32GB, RADEON HD7850 2GB, SSD + HD, XP/7
