Spray painting this NetVista's shell. It had all sorts of scuffs, marks, etc. and I had to sand down some residue on it. Anyways I like how the metal part came out. Tomorrow I'll take on the front.

Looks amazing, man. What up with the dime in the power button area on the unit on top?

I'm not doing well in my bout vs the AWE64.

Somehow in the process of installing it's software and adding the system, autoexec, and config lines for the AWE64 and a DOS mode IDE driver I've somehow prevented my system from booting into 98SE.

There is some mscrvg32 (or something like that) which goes to not responding on start up and I have to control alt delete it just to get to the Microsoft Networking login and then once I'm passed that explorer never seems to start. Just a hour glass mouse.

This is annoying. Are there known problems with AWE64 drivers and Windows 98 SE? If not I'm going to have to pull my Starfleet Academy saves off the machine and wipe the OS and reinstall it (I'll probably move it back to 98FE in the process as well since its more era correct than SE)

Also, I did test it in DUKE3D before it started refusing to boot and I can't get it to detect the AWE64 in AWE32 mode under Music.

I bought 300+ floppies that had commercial programs on them, been going through them at work during lunch time. I've posted 25+ programs so far on REMOVEDthat weren't there before. I found one program that was very interesting:

Direct Access Auto Menu System at REMOVED

It will auto-create a DOS menu system of programs on your hard drive. You can even change the PCX graphics file it shows on bootup. I didn't play around with it much yet, but does look interesting.

Thanks! The dime covers the power button perfectly so that doesn't get spray painted.

Ah. Interesting that you can use something like that to cover the button instead of tape (residue).

Back up every disk including readable but damaged disks. Then make a backup of that backup. Even if it's already out there there is always the chance your version is slightly different.

Wiped the WinMe install on my Coppermine 700 system that survived three motherboard and two graphics card changes. It had started to become slightly unstable, with occasional lockups upon boot. And I just didn't like WinMe that much anyway, so back to Win98SE we go. Installing it as I type this.

EDIT: And the system is all set up, rock solid. Now I need to install about 30 games on it in the next week; I can then shelf it into storage and move onto another project, most likely my EPIA-M portable retro gaming box.

Nice. Currently doing a refurb on mine - console5.com refresh kit, cleaning switches, removing old AV mod and upgrading to UAV Rev D. + audio companion.

Decided to get the Digital Audio PowerMac back up and running, but it's dead. Suspect the battery - ordered a new one, no Mac retro stuff until I do.

Instead started up one of the SGI O2 systems for the first time in years, and installed OpenBSD on it. It eats 50% of CPU re-linking the kernel after boot and takes ten minutes! Both OpenBSD and NetBSD don't work well with a PS/2 keyboard (to be honest O2 keyboard support has always been a bit iffy). May look for a code fix or, because it's a modern Unix, just stick in a PCI USB card and use a PS/2 to USB converter..

Can't get a serial console working either. Works fine when writing direct to cua00/cua01, or when the console on the machine itself has been set to serial rather than graphics. Odd. SSH is fine of course.

Probably not paint the letters. The color is lighter than the original, but it is still more of an off-white, light cream color than pure white. Pretty sunny so that's why it looks brighter than it is

I have bought more frames than I have printed posters; Duke Nukem 3D and a Mortal Kombat. Then I'll be done (for now).

Did a whole myriad of psycho things with the 486 yesterday - Firefox, SeaMonkey, and Thunderbird (Nathan Lineback's modded versions).

I guess one can indeed surf the modern internet in Windows 95 on a 486 in 2018. COnjures up memories of surfing in AOL 3.0 on 8MB of RAM on a 486 DX-33 though in Windows 3.1 in 2001.

@bregolin: How cool is that? I'm planning on scanning the box art from games that my dad got brand new in the 1990's, make them as posters, frame them, and hang them up in my back room after clearing it out some more above my computer collection.
