To be fair, it was my dad's computer, not mine. I didn't get a computer completely for myself until a bit later, a Pentium-based Compaq Deskpro system. I wanna say I was 5 when I had that system. Even then, it wasn't technically mine - it actually belonged to my dad's place of work. First system I had that was totally mine was a Pentium III-based Dell system, which I got when I was 11. Until then, my main system was the family rig - an AMD K6 233MHz-based system.

I remember watching my father play doom and Quake in the mid 90's. He used to go over to a work buddies house and swap software and stuff back then it was pretty cool. He never let me play though because of my mother. 🤣

Check me out at Transcendental Airwaves on Youtube! Fast-food sucks!

DOOM at age 6? Good lord, seems kinda young to me.

Yeah. It's not like it was Doom-3 or anything like that.
Most modern Disney and other movies, like dreamworks's Shrek, looks way more real than 23 year old computer gfx. 😁
Mmmm.... They are not even scared of nightmare before Christmas and corps bride.
So why not the first doom game then? 😉

Times change, and children are way more used to scary stuff now a days.
I would not show them scary stuff like "real' horror movies.
Animated stuff is ok.

As an example.
Kim possible is ok. It's a cartoon with robots and action and stuff.
Teen wolf or true blood. No way would I let them watch.

It all depends on what to see and how easily scared they are.

News on the television is not even ok for an 8 year old to watch if you ask me.
That is the real life. Wich is really scary for a little child, when served like that on the television.
You know... Murders, disasters, war and stuff like that.

Decided to have a shot at getting my old OS2 v4 installation online.

Os2 still looks as good as back then. Whenever I install it, I change as much as I can to make 4 look like 3.
That was an amazing desktop. Even 2 looks better if you ask me.

Anyway, I'm sorting out my retro PCs... Playing a bit with my Pentium, now that I replaced its Trident card with a Virge. Now I'm debating whether I should leave it with DOS 6.22+Win 3.11 or put Windows 95 on it and leave the 3.11 duties to a 486.

I didn't get a PC until I was 21! 🤣

I would make it a double boot machine with MS-DOS 6.22 + WFW3.11 and Windows 95. At least this was the setup during the times, and my current Pentium MMX has the same setup.

Wouldn't change it at all as there's a few enhancements over v3s, which I have on my DECpc:

I was 17 years old, when I bought my first computer. Before that, I had to reli on my parents machine.
They got it when I was 9 or 10 years old.
When I bought the machine, I was used to play on a 286 10mhz 640kb Ram and 20mb HDD.
I bought a 486 slc 25 mhz or perhaps 50? (cant remember) with 4mb Ram and 256mb HDD.
Yeah... I knew nothing about hardware and was convinced that it was a real 486.
Boy, did I learn something the hard way.

Yeah. The technology under the hood is better. I just like the look's of 2 better than 3 and 3 better than 4. 😁
That's all 😉 It all comes down to simplicity of the desktop. 😀

I found the original v4 desktop a bit lacking so added XWorkplace Shell, Scitech display driver, a desktop switcher and numerous other customisations. The same is able to be done with v3 if you take it to the comparitive FixPack level. That was the whole point of Workplace Shell in the first place.

I have been playing around with my Asrock K7S41 motherboard, testing out some hardware.
Namely SCSI controllers, various CPU's, some GFX cards and testing some ram.
I discovered that I have one single bad cap on this board.
This is a small issue, as I have changed one of those big caps on this board before.
Think it is a 3300 micro fahrad. Well... I have some new ones in the component-box.

Of those CPU's that I am going to test, I am keeping the two 2400 XP's and the one 2200 XP that I have.
Then there is 3 Duron's left, that I need to get rid of. Probably sell or give them away.
As I really don't need them at all.
I don't need the SCSI adaptor's that I have, as I once again realized what a pain in the ***, SCSI is.
So... Three controllers, 5 harddrives, 1 plextor and 1 zip-drive going off to the online trading places.

For the moment. The setup looks ok. Running with a 2400 XP and one gig of Ram.
It has a GF-FX5200 128mb and I probably stick a TV-Card in one of the empty PCI-Slots.

I have one issue though. What operating system to choose?
Not going for XP, that's for shure. Yet. Should it be 98, 2000 or something else?

Just recapped my SB32 with fresh Rubycons. Fired it up and noticed some added warmth to the sound already. Will check on the surround system.

Also OCed my K6-3+ 450 to 550 at stock voltage. Seems stable after running a few benchmarks. Speedsys score jumped to 660, but Sandra99 still reports only half the memory bandwidth of a PII-450. 🙁 What do you want for free?

I rebuilt my Windows 98 Pentium III gaming pc. Installed a 200GB hard drive. 😁 Upgraded the GPU to an Nvidia RIva TNT 2
Also, I am installing software in DOSBOX from floppies using a USB to floppy adapter.

Doom isn't just a game, it's an apocalypse survival simulator.

My DFI P5BTX/L REV:C socket 7 board, Cyrix 6x86MX 200+ and S3 Virge DX arrived from Amibay, so I built that into my sole AT case, works great and having a blast, also gave me a chance to test a few of my other skt7 CPU's, 6x86 166+ is all fine(happy), sadly the Winchip 200 is fried, no display and gets really hot quick, oh well....
Still need to try my K6 166 & Pentium mmx 200. been playing a load of old DOS games and having great fun 😀

Helped a friend sort out a MSI based kx400 chipset Socket A system he got for free. Besides the dust and both sticks of RAM being dead it is in fairly nice shape. Even came in a nice silver case. No exhaust on the back, just a side exhaust fan and a front intake. Weird design

I finally saw with my own eyes why the Virge is known as a 3D decelerator card xD. Tomb Raider works fine using the S3D patch on a Pentium 133 + my Virge DX at 512x364 (640x480 is a bit sluggish) and I'd use it any day over software rendering. Quake+mini GL is... well... absurd. Even at 320x200 it still stutters and runs at bad FPS, but both DOS quake and WinQuake run fine.

What series of Rubycons did you use? Did you use the same capacitance values as original, or did you change them?
I've heard of some people changing some of the values, but I have no idea what changes they are making.
