Nice. Did yours come with the vortex II? Seems like those are common on XPS systems of that era.

Trying to install NHL 96 on my K6-2 300 desktop, and it goes south by throwing me this error:

cdromdirectoryentry - error 2 reading directory /data\game.ksf

The CD has light scratches, and when I run:

dir \data\game.ksf

It shows the file and I might try to copy the CD onto my hard drive to see if it'll work.

You're 100% sure it's checking the correct drive, right? The error message doesn't specify which drive, could be anything depending on the game's craftsmanship.

Apparently, it only installs and runs when Windows is running, and the manual says I can't run the game within Windows or the command prompt in Windows. The irony.

Thanks! It did, as the XPS T600 I got last week on craigslist also came with the same card. And the XPS T550 my father ordered new back in 1999 came with one.

I recorded some music from vinyl to a VHS Hi-Fi tape and was surprised by the glorious audio quality!
I think those old claims that VHS can do 20-20000 might actually be true.

"Retro". (Hey, it's >15 years old now.) Replacing the neon lights with LEDs in a Dance Dance Revolution game. They're incredibly bright compared to the original neons, and also white, so I'll have to figure out how to color and perhaps dim them a bit.

The input is 12v DC, and the original neon strips use a power inverter. I can bypass that entirely with the 12v squares I purchased.

The monitor is not functioning, so we are using a JAMMA to SCART adapter, and a SCART to BNC+phono cable to a Sony PVM for video until the new display arrives.

Well, Betamax was used for an early digital music format. Big tape = big sound?

A bit more modern than what I'd consider "retro" but this AM2+ PC is certainly old and does serve some classic gaming needs -

I replaced the coin cell battery in my Packard Bell iStart 2380 PC and overclocked it's AMD Sempron 3500+ (stock: 2.0GHz) to 2.7GHz and underclocked the RAM to 533MHz. I had the CPU at 2.9GHz at one point, but it wasn't stable.

Rest of spec is as follows:

Biostar MCP6PB M2+ Motherboard
2GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7300LE 128MB PCIe Graphics Card
200GB SATA HDD

OS: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

This setup is mostly useful for the addictive "Marble Blast Gold", but I've also been playing the Mac ports of Halo & Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.

This PC is certainly more than a match for my PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0GHz, but it's seriously in need of a replacement Graphics Card, as the 7300 with the custom Hackintosh drivers does not like certain OpenGL games, for instance Tomb Raider Chronicles is just a blank screen. The 7300 was the only OS X-compatible card I had to hand when I set this system up and even that was a nightmare to get up and running.

I know this motherboard can handle much faster processors, but for what I'm using it for an upgrade would probably be overkill.

Either Halo or Macs OpenGL implementation are garbage. I remember it lagging on my eMac @ 1024x768 and my eMac is the model with the Radeon 9600. No excuse for that.

It's probably a bit of both, I've never found Macs to be particularly well optimised for gaming.

I'm running Halo at 800x600 on this Hackintosh and I think I did the same on my PowerMac G5, which only had a GeForce 6200 256MB AGP installed. At 1024x768 it does seem to lag a bit on this Sempron 2.7GHz + GeForce 7300, but it's still very playable.

I got a few more bins to store/organize sound cards for my upcoming/in progress project.

Ever go through your stuff and find out that you have accumulated multiples of some cards without even realizing it?

Let's just say I have gone through a 100 pack of anti-static bags and need to order some more.

Most of the duplicates came from buying different lots of cards that included some stuff I already had.

I'm selling 2x Intel Pentium II Xeon 400MHz Slot 2 server CPUs right now on amibay.com since the server I had lost all 3 PSUs, and luckily, the processors are still in great shape and the server was unplugged at that time, and the PSU was pulled out since only 1 was allowed since the server took a Hell of a lot of power per PSU.

Upgraded the memory in my iMac G3/600 from 512MB SDRAM to 768MB SDRAM successfully, and it kept the time and date this time after I replaced the battery in it last month.

Picked up a Thermaltake Shark recently (alot of damage and dust but all repairable). The case was surprisingly lightweight (full aluminium case) and the front was solid allumium aswell.
Took it apart and glued back the clips. Took off the front plate for cleaning and polishing (belgom love the stuff), looks almost brand new. The original fans were almost unrecognisable due the amount of dust so cleaned the filter and threw both fans (these will be replaced by a led exhaus fan and a high static pressure intake fan, kept the dust filter). Due to the chasis being aluminium it was bend abit out of shape so fixed this aswell.
Further more I took apart my antec psu and wrote down all caps that need replacing.

It wasn't a huge letdown for me as my eMacs CRT is shot. I need to open it up and see if I can find a hardware knob for brightness adjustment. It would have been unplayable due to brightness. I really thought with a CRT, 768MB of memory's, WiFi, and a G4 1.4 processor the eMac would be the ultimate in PPC OS X gaming. Definitely was wrong.

I find that odd that your eMac doesn't want to play games, like Halo, even though your system meets or exceeds the requirements. How much RAM do you have installed? I recommend 1GB of RAM (looks like it's DDR RAM for your system since it has a PowerPC G4 processor in it. I can't even play games on my iMac G3/600 Graphite that has a Radeon 128 Pro and 768MB RAM installed, bit it's great to play shockwave and flash player games on it, as well as certain java games, minus RuneScape (newer version). Plus, it's perfect as a video editing machine.

768MB.

I have an iMac G3 233 myself with the pathetic Rage II graphics (and OS X.... Why did the previous owner put OS X on this steaming garbage heap....)

Does anyone know where I can get images of the G3 233s original OS9 install CDs?
