Question: has anyone ever heard of a cartridge called IDE64 for the Commodore 64? Looks like a Hard Drive cartridge to load/save games and stuff onto the drive (CF card standard, SD, MMC, IDE/SATA HDD/CD/DVD, LS-120 and ZIP [PSU required] optional) to be in place of the 1541 floppy drive.

Well, I have now since it's, uh... literally the top result of a relevant internet search: http://www.ide64.org/ 😉
It seems everything you could possibly want to know about it is listed there.

I looked at that, and 99 euros is too much. But, it is a better option than the 1541 diskette drive.

sd2iec or uiec. thats what you want.

the c64/128 revolve around 1541. fastloaders, copyprot etc. if its not 1541 emulation its not worth it.

sd2iec/uiec will give you the next best thing (better would be ultimate 1541 cart which does 100% 1541 emulation).

Received a p200 and replacement power bricks for my MT-32 and SC-7. My DOS/Win95 B machine will be complete once I swap out the CPU and set everything up nice and pretty.

Contemplating making a video of the cpu swap and some benchmarks before/after. I mean...it's what all the cool kids on youtube are doing right?

My 1541 Ultimate II is the reason my C64 is permanently set up.

That's the one that has a USB port on it to support flash drives or card readers, right? And has the Datasette (TAP) emulation as well? If it was cheap, I would buy one, but sadly, it ain't cheap.

As I was saying previously, I had to change that ugly cooler which cames with the card, it was just too much for me. So I swapped it for my copper Zalman. Much better, I think 😀

Better cooling for the chips as well. I had to install a fan from a CPU heatsink that was pulled off of a broken motherboard onto my VooDoo3 3000 PCI Card since it only had the passive cooling, and for how big the fan is, it gets the job done.

Awesome, a C64 is on my list for me to pick up still.

I modded my Mega Drive today, installing a 50/60hz switch. It's the first proper console mod I've done with soldering. It was exciting, and more importantly, it seems to work!

Nice. Sounds like you can play NTS and PAL games on the fly. The mod I'm going to do next would be to install a SID2SID into the system for stereo output. I plugged it in to see if it'll turn on, and it does. Just waiting on the RCA to Coax cable adapters that I purchased on Amazon, and it'll go nicely with my Sony PVM-9L1 with the DVD Recorder as the main box with the A/B switch box to change the source from antenna to the C64, or my TV/VCR Combo. And everyone's suggesting for me to get the Ultra 1541-II instead of the 1541 drive itself for games and stuff.

That's a worthwhile mod for sure - I did mine recently too but my telly only has composite input, so I needed to do this extra mod to get colour @ 60Hz:

http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/mega-drive-1-pal-60hz-colour-mod/

This extra step was somewhat daunting for a hack like me but it all went smoothly enough - worked first time actually, no twiddling of the variable capacitor required. The colours are perfect and the image quality wasn't impacted. End result:

I play mostly SMS games on my MD actually - the image is noticeably sharper than the trusty old SMS.

Finally got around to re-installing Windows 98 SE on my Pentium III PC as the previous Windows drive had a head crash while booting and died. Also, installed my STB BlackMagic Voodoo2 12MB in there, my first 3Dfx experience. Enjoying some silky smooth Quake II 😁

Would love to make it an SLI system, but gotta find an affordable second STB BlackMagic first. 😜

Any Voodoo 2 12MB will work with the FastVoodoo drivers.

Not all of them works together with fastvoodoo even though most of them do, and DOS games that usually supports SLI won't support a mismatched SLI even though the windows games do.

For example, carmageddon 1 crashes with the SLI enabled, you MUST disable it (and so loosing performance) to get it to run

Is there anything to gain by SLI in DOS in the first place? Most games support the Voodoo 1 and Banshee only anyway, and most games have no multi-texturing support, let alone SLI. On top of that, I don't recall many if any games that allow you to do 1024x768 in DOS glide?

Well I can say that carmageddon is smoother on an SLI rather than on a single voodoo 2 and it's also smoother on a voodoo 2 rather than on a voodoo 1 or a banshee.

Plus, even though some of these games won't take any advantage of an SLI, it's still quite annoying to go through menus to disable the SLI just to play the game. Also, IIRC, if I had to close carmageddon and re-open it, I had to re-enable the SLI and then re-disable it to sorta reset the cards and be able to play the game once more, with a non mismatched SLI, I don't need to do that either

Explored a new (to me) electronics recycling center that was extremely reasonable. Sold to me by the pound. Got some incredible deals. I only had sadness knowing I couldn't save them all. haha The last two photos was a bizarre little system. Almost looks like a multi-line BBS machine, but probably not. Maybe you guys can identify. Glad I recently got my tetanus shot booster because man I had a lot of cuts sifting through the piles. Gloves next time.

Looking up Inter-tel, it looks like that computer was just for a business phone system. Nothing too exciting.

I have. You can buy them finished and assembled. They should be a good alternative to SD2IEC.
Some titles will not work on such a device, just as the SD2IEC. Because they take advantage of the Floppy drive.
