Hi all.
For you all that are batteling to get the right retro config, I have found something here, wich could guide to a good retro build.
They are mostly info about recommended setups and stuff. Please find more and post it here.... 😉

Dream Magacine's "Dream PC" from 1998:

Very cool!

What is special about the canopus Voodoo II? I thought Diamond and Creative were the main brands.

I really don't know. Maby they have been paid off by getting sponsors for the different hardware pieces.
Special brands named in articles, should allways be taken with a grain of salt if you ask me. 🤣
Just go for something like the stuff described there. 😉

Yea it's amazing that we can build such systems for comparatively little money. Sure some parts like a Voodoo2 could be cheaper but I love being able to play with hardware, that was once worth thousands and thousand of dollars 😀

Some special kind of output switching that doesn't degrade quality.

I found this somewhat humorous USENET post about a circa 1993 486 "dream machine" when searching for EISA/VLB motherboard information: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.sys.ibm. … jE/JUuFUgdsf5oJ

But doesn't it require some special cable to hook up, and also require a Canopus 2D/3D card that supports "WitchDoctor" to do this properly (they take the image from the Voodoo into the 2D/3D instead of the other way around)? 😕

^Well, maybe because they made 6MB cards, along with Miro, and iirc they came late and were much cheaper?

Ah, here comes my sweet, sweet justification. 😁

Please find more articles and info on the net, regarding test's/build's/hardware-combination from specific aera's.
I personally need to know more, as I have too much different hardware, wich I can not really truely place on that scale.
And what better source of info, than articles and magazines from a specific time period. 😉

Well, one of the forum users, I believe is Tetrium, has in is signature some links for very interesting reading that he (rightfully) recomends. I love the Red Hill Guide and keep coming back to read it, it has been updated recently. Other thing I like is the Computer Gaming World Museum, you can download any issue you'd like and read the recomended gaming rigs, lean machines, etc

Online isn't the only way: Another resource I've been thinking of exploring is advertising. It gives you the perception of what was offered to the consumer at given date.

There's been a few threads sharing stuff like this previously.

CGW archive is good: http://www.cgwmuseum.org/
90's Maximum PC: link
... and PC Mags: link
Also Phil Croucher's The A+ Reference Book is a good read if you could find it.

You need to remove "&hl=id" from the URL (and optionally you can change .co.id to .com which was my first guess).

Didn't realise those contents were in local domain, have changed the links. 😀
Or you can just google those keywords plus "google books" from your pc.

Anyway, can you actually download anything from Google Books?

From Maximum PC, May 2000 ed:

That's got to be the campiest 3Dfx/Voodoo ad I've ever seen. 🤣

Holy smackarronie!

So, I checked and apparently there is no way to download from google books, at least not without a 3rd party app like "google book downloader" or something.

Thanks a 1000 times for all links posted here.... Must download and read later.
Having my head buried in my builds I have at this moment.

My K6-III DOS rig, and my P4 Win98 rig are almost done.
Next up, is my old P-1 166 DOS rig and my HP Vectra Celeron 266.
They are prime candidates for recieving the right hardware. 😜

Yeah, the third party apps used to work fine though. I used one to complete my Maximum PC magazine archive for backissues they never uploaded to their website, which I didn't think was too questionable a use. 😀

I noticed that the boot magazine archives still haven't appeared despite the rest of Maximum PC being posted. I'm also hoping Ziff-Davis will get around to letting Google post some of their other magazines. I was a fan of PC Computing and Windows Sources back in the day.
