Any preferences here?
Cheers.

I guess you have a Slot 1 motherboard. Tualatins need PGA2 adapter or a rewire on a Slotket adapter. Also 1133MHz is on a 133FSB, so your MB needs to support it.

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

For Slot 1 I'd say just use the P3 1ghz (if your board supports slot 1 1ghz CPUs). For Socket 370, go for the Tualatin 1.4ghz. If your board doesn't support Tualatins then you can buy a pin modded 1.4ghz Tualatin from this guy on eBay for US $30 with free shipping.:

As long as your board supports coppermine 133mhz cpu's then this pin modded Tully should work fine. Really hard to suggest stuff though without knowing what motherboard you're using.

Oops, sorry people...
I don't have the mobo yet, but I've found a good source for both cpu/mobo for a new build a little more retro than P4 and wanted to gauge opinions.
Found these:
Tualatin PIII 1133mhz with ASUS TUV4X
or
PIII 1000 Slot 1 and SOYO SY-6VBA133
Probably the Asus/Tulatin..
Apologies for not being more clear.

I don't know if there's a cost difference involved, but the TUV4X would definitely be my preference. I'd love to have a 694T motherboard. You can build an awesome P3 with that, and you can always scale it down to the Coppermine level if you want.

The other board isn't nearly as interesting. It's a 2 generations older chipset, and being a Soyo it might have bad caps.
That Soyo is a 693A, after that was the 694X, and after that is the 694T which that Asus has.

Only thing wrong with the Asus is that it's socket-370, which I fear breaking every time I touch them, but you can't avoid that for a high end P3 board.
Just be careful with those damn heatsink clips. The Tualatin heatspreader changes the clearances making it even worse - most clips will be too tight and can break the socket.
Seriously, use something soft, there's just no reason to use a tight clip on 370 CPUs. It's not like they're going to overheat. The thing to worry about is those wimpy hooks that love to break.

Yes, those clips can be damn tight, I agree.

I use the Asus tusl2-c with a tualatin and an Asus p3b-f with a p3-700.

Love both setups. p3b-f is more retro but it all depends on your needs for the system (has isa slots). I mostly use Asus for my systems, can`t go wrong with them imho.

Tusl2-c has native support for tualatin so it doesn`t need a modded cpu because it uses the intel 815ep chipset (same for the via 694T chipset which has also tualatin support)

I'd go for the 1ghz PIII. It has plenty of power for 9x games and plus - the slot 1 form factor is so exotic and cool looking! Who can't love the huge jagged finned heatsinks and quiet operation due to passive cooling? I'd personally use the 1.4ghz Tualatin for early XP era games.

Decided on Athlon Slot A in the end, which I got this morning in a nice little Gigabyte/Athlon 700 combo
