This may go in DOS games, but why do PCI cards crash when echo's and reverb goes on in Build engine games?
Because Jim Dose` wrote some crazy assembly involving buffers and DMA in 1994, a time when there wasn't DOS-supporting PCI soundcards in the mainstream, and 486s were so they'd have to really pull out all the stops in order to get decent performance.

Also, can you play multiplayer if you have the PCI patch with someone who doesnt?
It should. Modifying the sound library module should not have adverse effects on gameplay and the sync of it
