Hi all...
I had an AWE32 CT-2760, wich died on me. And today i recieved an CT-3900 card.
I have not yet had the chance to test it out, because it is drying from cleaning.

My question is, that besides the 2760 being a jumper-card and the 3900 being a PNP-card.
And the 2760 having greater support for various cd-rom drives.
What is to be expected from the 3900? Is it cleaner in the sound or is it just the same?

Thanks in advance. 😀

The CT3900 is not PnP, you set the base port via jumpers, the rest is configured via software (DIAGNOSE.EXE). Later models come with real ISA-PnP (e.g CT3980, CT3990).
CT3900 cards have a newer mixer chip than CT2670, so they are supposed to be quieter.

Yeah, I know about the base port being jumpers, so the card is technically not a true PNP card.
It is only refered to a PNP-card way back then, in 1995. Even in the manual, I think it is called a PNP-card.

Hmmm... Newer mixer. That is why one of the chips are different. Labeled as produced in france.
It is the same chip as on the SB16 Value Edition. Wich was kind of like one of the better sounding cards from 1995.
I only remember it, as the one that I have now, is dead. Makes a good wall ornament though. 😁

CT3900 is full PNP.
What i know is that there are two versions, one with newer chips (with green wire jump on PCB) and one with older chips.
The card is identical to 2760 and to me it sounds exactly the same. Its not noisy/crappy.

It's the one with the green wire. 😀

Well you can try, if it works with CTCM it is PnP. If it requires Diagnose /S then it is not iSA-PnP. (However it's IRQ/DMA etc. can be configured by software if the baseport is known).

I know it is an PNP card, wrote that in the first place. 😉
Well... Partial PNP, yet as PNP as Creative could do ISA cards. Hehe.
The controller's for CD-Romdrives are not PNP too. (i have disabled both controllers and joystick port)

It is installed and running in my main retro rig, right now. Doing it's stuff with CTCM and such.
Have even been doing some MT32 emulation with Monkey island and shooting some aliens in Duke. 😜

The card is as good as an AWE32 can be, I guess.... Don't hear any noice and have not heard any hanging note.
Must be that the software (the games) that I am running, does not produce it, or the card is without the note.
Sadly the SB-Live is emm386 only, as I personally think that my CT-4620 outputs a better quality.
Even the MT32 emulation sounds better on the live... Well... Better on my cheap speakers it is.
Must be the gold plated jacks on the card, and the wiring or something else, like the age of the card. 😁

That all said, I can clearly recommend the AWE32 CT-3900 Card. It has soo much coolnes in terms of length and quality.

The SBBASIC and CTCM files from the Creative site should do the trick.

On PnP cards it will ask for the CTCM folder during installation, on sem9 PnP cards it will not and you just select resources during installation.

I used the ISO for the PNP card, found on vogons drivers. That is the only installation software that worked for my card.
Tried both the SB-Compilation and some floppy based, and failed. (guess I am a bit lazy, and just want an autoinstaller)

Just failed to mention, that this card is running under MS-Dos-6.22 only.
Installed in an K6-3 400 mhz, with an GUS-ACE at the moment.

Just finished testing the card, and I must say that I am really pleased with it.
I have tested it with games, games and even more games.

The CT-3900 is really quiet, no line noise to speak of. There is some, yet it is nothing to speak of or something that bothers.
Only one thing stood out. The CT-2760 is a bit better in sound quality, when I am loading the MT32 tsr.
As with this and other later ISA cards from Creative, I am really missing jumpers for IRQ and DMA settings. I love jumpers.
Oh well... Can't get it all 😁
