Maybe you could get an Aureal PCI sound card so you'd have A3D on Windows 98 (and perhaps route its line-out to the AWE's line in, or use a mixer, so you wouldn't have to keep plugging/unplugging cables every now and then)

That's a great idea! Heaps of W98 games support A3D!
