Hi,

a few weeks ago I got a prolinea 4/100 Desktop. The built in battery is out of order. I only see the counting of the RAM, there is no bios available.
The computer beeps twice and boot either from a bootable floppy or from the new build in harddisk after I made it bootable.

I found out, that the Bios can be accessed with a system partition. first i have to create this special partition and that is the problem.
I don't know what I need to do this. I found a special "diagnostic-disk" which is able to create the 2MB system partition, but it also needs
a "setup" disk to do so. I hav not found this disk, all I found was a setup.exe that requires Windows running so what do I need to setup
this computer correctly?

After getting access to the Bios I have to find a away to change the Bios-Battery. I think that is not possible with the original built in,
but it is possible to connect a external one at a special connector.

Please help me getting this thing to work properly again 😀

Thx
Doc

This could help: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/det … 503&swEnvOid=14

Fortunately, HP still has the original BIOS setup disks and other drivers for your system.

This helped, now I managed to install the special Partition and I got access to the Bios.
Now I have to repeat the Battery. As far as I know, the original one is not changeable,
so I have to go for the separate Battery-Pack, but I have to search for a replacement
since the original one is properly not sold anymore.

Standard CR2032!
Simple, cut original battery, soldered socket to cables and then soldered cables to mobo. Watch for polarity.

Sorry for digging up this old topic again but I have picked up this machine with a totally dead harddrive.
I am trying to replace the harddrive but the "bios setup" was delivered on a floppy with this thing and I don't have that floppy.
Does anyone here have a floppy image for the BIOS/SETUP disk ?

You probably need (amongst other things to get this fully running again...) the "F10 Setup and Personal Computer Diagnostics"

Here you go...

nope have not found them unfortunately.

Im also looking for technical manuals so I can upgrade my dx2/66 -> dx4/100 safely.

I *guess* there should be a jumper switch to set voltage from 5v to 3.3v.

If you know, or can find the SoftPaq numbers thru archive.org, then you may find the files still reside on the HP ftp server at ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq.

is this manual any help? (mentions upgardes to DX4/100, 3.3 & 5V and changes to SW1 settings)
