We've all been there. Built a system that has no need of a floppy drive, turned the floppy drive controller off and every similar option. And yet the phantom floppy drive still exists! I've seen it under Win98 and WinME, classified as a removable drive.
Under Control Panel/System/Performance, the following always appears "Drive A is using MS-DOS compatibility mode file system".

It is more of a nuisance than an actual problem, but has anyone ever managed to get rid of this? As far as I can tell it ain't doing anything harmful, other than driving me semi-nuts 😜.

Some motherboards have a "Report no FDD for Win 95" option in the BIOS.

Alternatively, try disabling the floppy and it's controllers if they show up in Device Manager.

True, I had forgotten about that option. Unfortunately, the system that's exhibiting this behavior right now doesn't have this option and I seem to remember trying it on another system and it not working 🙁.

I'll gladly take a look in the Device Manager, thanks 😁!

Ace! Drive Manipulator from msfn did the trick! Keeping this little tool safe, I will definitely need it in the future! Cheers!
