i think i will add this to my perfboard version and try it with a few "little" code changes.

I don't see any need for transistors when you add resistors. So you don't need any code changes either.

What makes you think it need transistors?

Was having similar issue (wanted newer mouse that works with old pcs I have) and I'm not sure how well this will end up working but I ordered old Logitech mouse boxed with ps2 to serial adapter. Got the idea because I already had old Logitech ps2+serial mouse but no adapter. There's a lot of them around but I think the ps2->serial adapters varied between brands (different pinouts inside the adapter). I had microsoft ps2->serial adapter but no microsoft "combo" mouse.

forgot about all bootloader stuff.. just added a Jumper for this now. Why do complicated when it can be done very simple?

Project is currently into sleep state.. lack of time..
i still have pcbs and preprogrammed controllers laying around, but no time to assemble full kits.
i use mine now a long time and it still works fine.

matze79 - thanks for the update. Do you have a list of which KVM's exhibit problems?

matze79 wrote:

i have various reports from other users, having problems getting this working togehter with Many KVM Switches.
I also tested few myself, eg. D-Link DU2 has huge latency moving Mouse cursor and behaves badly using the Adapter.

Fixing this will require writing a entire new firmware which is more dynamic, i tried modify it to get it working with my KVM, which results into other devices are not working anymore (but works for my kvm..)

You modified the firmware to work with your KVM? After this modification, is there any latency difference between using the modified firmware for your KVM vs. that of the unmodified firmware when not using a KVM?

latency exists with KVM Switch and is annoying.. for testing purpose ok, for playing sucks.. 😳 and only works with one Digitus KVM Switch.

if you don't need kvm it works very good with a lot of mice's.

i also have now the same problem.. i need to interface with 286/386/K6-2 and my Main Computer 😒

i simply use now a RS232 Switch Box and a USB and a PS/2 Mouse.

Commercial avaible RS232 to PS/2 Converters also have latency.. :> tested already two.
For Industrial Purpose it seems ok but for playing..

I'm happy to announce that Felmar Loyd of DOSForum.de is in Progress of rewrite the Firmware in ASM.
It seems he has almost everything done and its working with KVM and he is willing to release its firmware when its done.
So here is still live and this is not a abandoned project!

Did you provide for him the hardware? And does he think he can eliminate the issue with lag and KVM's?

Problems are gone.

Felmar Loyd managed to rewrite everything from scratch.
Now the Device works even with KVM Switches and most Mouses.
It does now use the Logitech Protocol.

I'm also writing with james pearce the guy wo runs http://www.lo-tech.co.uk and provides the lotech XTIDE Controller PCBs, maybe we can add the PCB to his site so anyone can purchase one (and maybe a preprogrammed mcu)

Here it its, the latest Firmware is fully opensource.

Thanks to Felmar Loyd from Dosforum.de,
who entirly rewrote the Firmware.

Fusebits and Hardware remains the same.
You may want to use a external crystal if building one yourself (then you need to change fusebits.)

a new Patch of PCBs will be soon avaible and maybe soon also trough lotech.
This one will be able to fit against a Bracklet to sit also inside a Computer and all Connectors necessary to connect "Internal" and "External" to either a Header on a Multi I/O Card or the Comport itself.

hopefully you will be able what i wrote.
my english skill is still not perfect.
As i'm learning autoditact and never had it in school..

a new Batch of PCBs will be soon available and maybe soon also trough lotech.

I am very interested to buy one pre-programmed pre-soldered complete kit, a product.

I second that request. It would be nice of someone ordered in bulk the PCB's and components. Also pre-programming of the MCU would be a major asset. I tried to piece together the setup from another member who uploaded the diagram and code, but I could not get it working after many weeks at it.

Hello friends,
My first post here!
I've seen this project and got very excited about cause i don't own a serial mouse since 1998 and this got me into trouble
I did construct this on a breadboard checked and rechecked everything but it does not work. I ve flashed the latest hex file (the one with kvm support) nut nothing happens.
I like to ask , is a 8Mhz crystal a must cause i don't have one now. And what are thouse leds for? My green only flashes on and off and red does nothing at all.
Also I've tried both microsoft and logitech drivers but nothing happens mouse is not recognised any help please?

This sounds like what I ran into with another design. and is why it would be nice if someone could order the PCB's in bulk and pre-program the MCUs.

hopefully we will find time to work last bugs out..

Mine is working well, pretty sure something is misswired.
Or you have running your MCU at 1Mhz.. set fusebits to 8Mhz.
Eventually you have clock divide enabled.
Here are paramters for fusebits for avrdude

-U lfuse:w:0xe4:m -U hfuse:w:0xdf:m -U efuse:w:0xff:m

(Setting internal oscilator, 8Mhz)

Lack of oscilator can issue missbehavior of communication with computer/mouse, but i never had this problem.

The LED2 indicates if mouse is connected.
LED1 should flicker if mouse is moved.

EDIT:
A few Days ago i was asked via PM for new kits, unfortunaly last time i only shipped 2 out in vogons to keropi 😀.
i'm pretty sure i will have some avaible soon.

Thank you thank you and thank you for your time!!!
Can you tell me the exact command i must use with avrdude? i use usbasp as a programmer with burn o mat.
I've also double checked wiring and it is ok even checked continuity of the cables.
About the leds i can not find in the schematic which is led number one and led number two only led_r and led_g and as i told you green led starts flashing steady after about 20 seconds of powering the circuit and red does nothing even when move the mouse.
I am sure is a programming mistake by me but i have no experience with avrdude and i read somewhere that wrong settings can brick the mcu. Also first time i did this i had fuses set wrong and i am afraid i've damaged the chip.
