Hi,

does anyone have any pointers where to find datasheet or programming info for Paradise PEGA chipset that is onboard an Amstrad PC1640?
The same PEGA chipset is used also on some discrete EGA cards. I believe it is a PEGA1A version.

Basically I know it is able to switch between MDA and EGA monitors, but I am trying to do it on the fly instead of reconfiguring jumpers and rebooting, so there might be some registers that lock/unlock some mode switching features.

The disks for the PC1640 included a DISPLAY utility with which you could achieve anything the DIP switches could. (I suppose you meant those DIP switches? The PC1640 also support a CGA monitor. The different monitors which could be ordered with the system where called MD, CD and ECD - pretty obvious which is which.) Perhaps that is already sufficient for you.
Those disks can be downloaded at http://www.retroisle.com/amstrad/pcs/software.php
The technical reference manual for the PC1640 is at http://www.seasip.info/AmstradXT/1640tech/index.html
The stuff you are looking for is in chapter 1.11.

I could be wrong, but some emulator developer asked me to find those docs direct from Paradise (Western Digital) a while back, and I could not really find any trace of them. So aside from the Amstrad docs or any scene info, that's it so far.
