Got this Libretto 100CT for free, but unfortunately it's busted (no picture). The CPU seems to have gotten a bit too much heat from the looks of it. Probably trash it and save the external drives as those are hard to come by.

You should save everything that can be saved, especially for the screen which is an active matrix screen. Imagine if you did find another laptop like this one but with the crappy screen instead ? Or that the case or the keyboard misses some keys. You should keep it or sell it for parts because this could be useful to some people

Not a dumpster find, but a free pickup from a yard sale. A Creative CT2970! All I know is that it's a Vibra board. Can't wait to take my first step into Creative! (Sorry for low quality picture; phone is a POS) (Also, it's funny, 'cause I have never seen any PC components around here before, so I bought an AudioPCI on eBay as my first card a few days ago. Now there's one right in front of me!)

Nice find! The free finds often end up the most memorable ones. If you're just starting out, years from now this one may end up holding a special place in your heart. 😀

Yeah, worst case scenario, put it on ebay. It's always best to pass it along so someone else can fix it. IMO it's arrogant and selfish to scrap anything you can't personally fix. If it's the CPU then someone with a rework station could fix it easily.

Yeah, one day you'll be swimming in AWE64s, SBPros, etc. and you'll still love that thing. Same reason I keep my FX5200, MX400 and my precious R9250PCI. The sad thing is when you get to a point where you can't remember what is what and you accidentally trade/sell/give something away.

I doubt I will forget this purchase! It was advertised as a "yard sale," but was inside. I looked up the address, and thought I typed it wrong; the address showed a strip club. Luckily, it has been closed for years, but the signs were still up, so it still felt awkward. This card was just sitting on top of a bunch of slot machine circuit boards.no other components in sight... Still, I'm happy about it, 'cause it works!

The amount of digitized grunts and moans that card has played.... Isopropyl alcohol is a cleaner AND disinfectant FYI.

Well, yes probably. It does have a plastic bezel glued around the CPU so one needs to be very careful when trying to extract that without damaging the board. Then again, the problem might be the screen itself or the GPU which are rather hard to replace and not really worth the effort IMHO.

Screen is definitely worth it. I've got a sattelite T1850 I plan on buying a new screen for. Vintage laptops are super rare now.

I've got a T1800 but my problem isn't the screen, it's the floppy disk drive which is dead and makes the computer litterally unusable 🙁

Like actually dead or just dirty heads/dry gears?

The belt is completely destroyed so no floppy would be read from it. I never ever found any belt that was the correct size/ width for it. It's like 108mm long, 1-2mm wide and 0.5mm thick

Thanks ! ... but the shipping fees are 15$ to ship to my country, that's a bit too munch for me 😒

I sould look for other failing drives and maybe this would make the price a bit better. Or even buy for other people I know and sell them

Maybe you can find another (local) store that sells the item you want? Try searching for the part number.

Yeah, that was just my go-to supplier. There should definitely be a more local seller or shop. If you have any tv/stereo repair shop near you then that would be the best place to ask. (They all seem to be disappearing 🙁)
