Trash picked this CoolerMaster WaveMaster case... Perfect condition. Dates to about 2004... All aluminium... Everything! Power buttons, motherboard tray, drive bay covers. Quality seems great. Need to decide what system to put in it..

Wow that's a lucky find. Those Wavemaster cases are sweet. They are really well built and very easy to work in.

No computers trickled down to my department lately- but among the LCDs I found a pair of working Samsung 214T monitors. I remember I almost bought one like 15 years ago and now appreciate its connector set even more. Well, on top of having a nice classic 4:3 ratio it has composite and S-video inputs, now I even have the right cable to connect C64s to them so I stocked up in the 8-bit display category now. Hm, I didn't go to work by car in vain today!

Found this PC, or what was left of it, on the top of a construction waste container. The pins on the motherboard for the front side are bent, and a few capacitors are bulged. Nothing too critical that can't be fixed. The graphics card seems OK. Will have to test it.

An ASRock G31M-S is considered trash (sigh). Could be a nice WinXP sleeper.

I know. It's not my retro flavor anyhow. However, since I found it in a dumpster, I can't complain.

Just saved this Commodore 1801 Monitor from the dump. It looks quite good. Just a little bit dirty.
Even the door on the front is there and not broken... Also the plastic in front of the screen looks good.
I dont want to plug it in and risk a explosion 😁 The dust on it tells me that its not used for like 30 years...

Craigslist freebie: a 2011 Macbook Pro. No charger included, so I'll have to buy one to find out if it works. Wish me luck.

I bought a $20.00 knockoff charger from Amazon, and it worked! I reset the password so I could log on, but the original 5,400 RPM drive was slow when new, and the years since haven't helped, so I installed a 256 gigabyte Sandisk SSD I had salvaged from a different free computer only to face the difficulty of installing a Mac OS. After much fooling around, and failed attempts to do it by downloading a .dmg and using TransMac to make a bootable USB image, I connected an ethernet cable and booted up to the network and it installed Lion. Lion is now so old that you cannot get a secure browser, so I updated it in stages and have stopped at High Sierra. It only has four gigabytes of DDR3, so I have ordered more memory.

I maxed the memory at sixteen gigabytes of DDR3 (I assume that's the max anyway) and installed a one terabyte Samsung SSD. Catalina can be installed on these with a patch by DosDude1, and I've done so. Next up I'll use Bootcamp to also install Windows 10.

First off, congrats. They are gorgeous looking monitors imo. From the looks of that photo, you found it in an attic? I came across an almost mint 1802 (dark brown version) years ago. Love the looks of the 1801 and 1802 models. I submitted my photos to the Gona website. Great photo database.

Thanks.
The attic is it’s new home for some time ( my storage area). I found it on the side of the road in a pile of furniture. I looked for other stuff too but found only the monitor.
My plan is to make it look fresh again.
And yes they look really nice with the commodore badge and the plastic in front of the screen.

Got this nice lightweight Sony Vaio Pro 11 saved from the trash, with a few things to fix, because there is always a catch.

-LCD panel is a bit loose in the housing.
-Missing keycap '9'.
-Missing adapter

Luckily the fan is not noisy at all. It's 'just' a Pentium 3556u with 4 gigs of RAM and a replacable 128GB NVMe SSD, but I'm happy with it. Ideal for simple tasks.

While walking thru a Dollar Tree saw a 4Gb DDR3 1600Mhz ram stick on a shelf near the juices. Saw the manager and a clerk and they had no idea so kept it.
Have not tested it yet but had to save it until I can 🤣

I work at an E-cycle warehouse, some idiot dropped off three IBM model M keyboards.

Two have Enhanced layouts (One of those is an early square-badge revision without LEDs) and the third had a F1 terminal layout.

None had all the keycaps, but I was able mix and match what remained to complete the early Enhanced one. 😁

was it in as new condition? seems like it from the box

The laptop is in its carrying bag stored in the back of a cupboard, some cracked plastic here and there but it works fine.
I was really surprised to find the box down there and in such good condition.

Well, before I find some much older systems, I managed to find myself a rather nice card.

I mean I know that a Quadro 980XGL is overkill for a Slot 1 system that can almost be stable at 900MHz, but I don’t have a socket board for my 1.2Ghz P3

can't believe some people still trash valuable parts like these 🤷
