I have the following, and for the most part I choose the Sidewinder or the original CH Flightstick when I need one - mainly because they feel right to me.

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro, Sidewinder Precision Pro (the one with the USB adaptor) & the Sidewinder Precision Pro Racing Wheel.
However, of all the Microsoft joysticks, I believe the 3D Pro is the only one that provides pure DOS support and is also the only one that is an analog and digital joystick.
In analog mode, it can emulate both the Flightstick Pro or Thrustmaster FCS.
The only downside of this particular joystick is the ergonomics and my hand used to become sore after a couple of hours playing X-Wing 🤣.
The original post doesn't specify if the analog stick must be a gameport or USB model.
Whether it be the USB or gameport version, my vote for best analog stick goes to CH Flightstick Pro. They're tough, durable, accurate, and ambidextrous. The only thing they're missing is a rudder/twist action.
For legacy gaming Win9x systems, the best all-around joystick is probably the Sidewinder 3D Pro. They don't do everything the best, but they really do practically everything.
I have a little collection of joysticks, but i use them for different games.
A Gravis PC gamepad for platform games,
A Competition Pro for platform games, has nice microswitches,
A Gravis Flight Stick, for older dos games,
A Thrustmaster TupGun Platinum with Thrustmaster Attack-Throttle for win95,
combined with a Quickshot Masterpilot for flightgames.
A Piranha xtreme fightstick usb for my current pc, to use with emulation,
A Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro for win95 and up, flight sims,
A Microsoft Freestyle Pro, haven't used it yet, got it for free,
A Digital Edge f1sim compact, for old dos race games,
A Logitech Momo Force Feedback for newer games, that support force feedback.
First time I seen somebody here with a Masterpilot , do you have all the game cards for it? I have one and purchased the optional programmer to make my own ROM for newer games.
Collector of old computers, hardware, and software
I have bought it together as a set back in the day. I have the masterpilot, the programmer and a extra cardpack, think it's gamepak 2. Don't know how many gamepacks there where.
I'd love to find a Competition Pro joystick for PC gameport. I have them for my Atari 5200 and love them. It's difficult to find Atari-style joysticks for the PC. Everything is a flightstick with a trigger button. You would think that everyone over 40 would be able to fly a plane because of how popular flight sims were back in the day.
