Does anyone know which SB16 are compatible with it? I've a CT2290 (real opl3).

If by compatible you mean 'which ones have the internal goldfinch header' then it's only some of the later and crappier Vibras I think. But in my experience the CT2290 is a better choice to pair with the Goldfinch anyway because a) it's a superior card, and b) it seems to allow AWEUTIL to provide it's fill range of options (reverb, chorus, etc). My working theory is that the SB16 has a better mixer than the Vibras.

The only problem to overcome is how to send the Goldfinch's input into the CT2290 - you can either hack up a cable to link the cards via the SB16's CD-IN (easy but means that you can't use the CD-IN for its intended purpose) OR you can solder an audio jack onto the Goldfinch and connect it externally via the SB16's line-in. I went with the second option and am very happy with it.

I think i have two CD in on my card, and i think the same, ct2290 is really a superior one. Can we hack a cable to use one entry and use the other for the cdrom? or use the pc speaker in? 🤣 i'm bad at soldering ...

I'm really happy someone have it working!

No you can't use both CD-ROM inputs in my experience, I can't give you a technical explanation of why it doesn't work but having 2 inputs hooked up causes issues. Both will be distorted and muted. And no the PC speaker input isn't appropriate either.

I take it your Goldfinch card doesn't have an external output? It's worth persisting - you'll end up with one of the best AWE setups that money can buy!

Do these look ok for that card?

All I'm finding from Creative is they need to be 80ns or faster and 72-pinn SIMMs.

or these?

They need to be 30 pin, so the second ones you linked to would probably work fine. I've only got 8MB in mine (2x4MB), but that's enough for the sound fonts I use.

BTW here's my post from when I was setting mine up - might be helpful:

72 pin is not ok, it must be 30 pin. Besides, there might be a cheaper option:

here is mine, with a similar output mod:
CT1920 AWE32 Upgrade, Music volume

I suppose you could pair the CT1920 with any soundcard, or no other soundcard at all. Contrary to the 'upgrade' advertising it actually is a standalone music card. As long as one can route/connect the stereo output signal to headphones or speakers.

I'll see if I have a pic somewhere but gerwin's post has a nice pic in it. Soldering in the jack was easy enough, but making a neat hole in backing plate was harder - I suggest using a center punch and using a fast drill with the plate well secured. I must admit that I messed the first one up and had to buy another!

Just to be clear -- there's no SB16 with the Goldfinch header that has an OPL3?

I have a CT2800 (Vibra 16S with OPL3), but it does not have a Goldfinch header.

Just trying to get the EMU8000 + OPL3 combo without any mods or buying an expensive AWE32.
