Any chance you can go with XP instead of 98?

I found Guru 3D a great resource.

You can browse back in time, and early drivers see to support Windows 98 as well. Worth checking it out:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/

Click on Videocards - ATI Catalyst XP 32-bit (257 files)

Nice resource. There are some 98/ME drivers mixed in there with the XP. I saw 3.7, 3.9, and 3.10, among others. I may try to uninstall 6.2 and go back, if possible.

As I said, ATI/AMD archive is not existent.
Thank you for you links and effort guys, I will try 3.9 mixed. I hope the drivers are VXD.
Still if someone will find 3.8 from a CD, please let me know.
I want to stay with 98SE, XP gave me orrible results and instability with this card, so I will try 98 now.
And if I will fail, I'll stay with it anyway with another VGA.

Whenever I tried an ATI card, I had issues. So I just stick with Nvidia. Doesn't help you, I know...

Strange, I've been using ATI/AMD graphics cards exclusively in my PC's since 2002 and never had any installation issues.

I have Catalyst 3.8 for you (the actual driver and the separate control panel).
Here's a link where I've uploaded the drivers to: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=1 ... lder%2cexe

I found out that you can download them by searching the file URL on Wayback Machine and using the live link.

ATI Catalyst 3.8 for Windows 98/ME:

Once my XP 3200+ arrives, I will try out the 9800XXL again and see how it compares to the 6600GT AGP. IHopefully I have better luck this time 😀

I just thought of something, the 9800XXL you have, is the cooling on it still in good condition? You might need to replace it with one of those Zalman knock-off VGA coolers. Just note that you have to change the connector wires somewhat.

The VRMs (or MOSFETs) are also not cooled very well, you could maybe look into sticking some heat sinks on there as well.

The 9700 looks good, but I can't help but notice a little discoloration around those MOSFETs on the 9800. You definitely need to get some better cooling on it, for the sake of preservation. You can read about the Medion's cooling not being up to scratch from here. A lot of people made bad ATi cards back in the day, which one of the reasons they got such a bad reputation.
