Did run it as well in all resolutions available on the CuMine in the sig:

resolution software ogl
320x240 92.8 fps 230.0 fps
400x300 78.7 fps 232.1 fps
512x384 60.8 fps 235.4 fps
640x480 47.3 fps 234.0 fps
800x600 36.2 fps 236.2 fps
960x720 28.3 fps 234.6 fps
1024x768 25.3 fps 223.8 fps
1152x864 21.4 fps 216.3 fps
1280x960 18.2 fps 197.6 fps

Trying to get it to run in a VM now for a bit of fun.

Will we get all those results in some nice table afterwards?

Hi all. First time poster.

I came across this topic yesterday, and I thought I would see what my Windows 98 retro rig (bare metal) could do. Here are the specs:

Gigabyte GA-P75-D3
Core i5-3570 (3.4 GHz Base, 3.8 GHz Turbo)
8 GB DDR3 RAM (Win98 limited to 1GB in SYSTEM.INI)
GeForce 6800 GS (256MB, PCI-E) - Forceware 77.72
Windows 98 SE

Timedemo (Software) 1280x960 = 115.0 FPS Average

Is there a way to set a custom resolution in Quake 2 like 1080p?

How about spoiling the fun with virtual CPU? 😁

Quake2 3.20 1280x960
timedemo 1
map demo1.dm2

689 frames, 3.5 seconds: 197.1 fps (software)
689 frames, 1.1 seconds: 603.3 fps (default OpenGL)

Win98SE on QEMU WHPX/MESAGL pass-through
AMD FX8300/GeForce GT730
While both CPU and GPU are not the latest and greatest, the GPU is still lightyears more advanced than the best GPU that you can get Win98 drivers.
Yes, it is unfair, so what....

Interesting! But I don't think it's likely that the VOGONS forum members in the Marvin subforums are likely to care, or to count your result. 😁

Hi!

I don't know if it matters here because of the OS, but I got these numbers with my Win ME PC (Pentium 4 @ 2.4, 512MB RAM, Geforce 2 MX400 64MB, Intel D845 chipset motherboard):

Default OpenGL:
640x480: 75FPS
1024x768: 75.1FPS
1280x960: 70.9FPS

Software:
320x240: 167.2FPS
640x480: 65.3FPS
1024x768: 30.5FPS
1280x960: 21.2FPS

I think using a desktop class virtual CPU is truly unfair 😁
So I switched to mobile, fan-less ultrabook.
Quake 2 3.20 1280x960
timedemo 1
map demo1.dm2

689 frames, 8.9 seconds: 77.1 fps (software)
689 frames, 3.5 seconds: 196.5 fps (default OpenGL)

Win98SE on QEMU KVM/MESAGL pass-through
Intel Core m3-6Y30/ Intel HD Graphics 515 (SKL GT2)
"Run virtually, play everywhere"... ditto 😁
