My XP rig: Xeon X5470, Radeon HD 7850, 2x2 GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 RAM, Socket 771 modded Asus P5B Deluxe.

This beast easily does 4 GHz on standard voltage, but since the cooling solution (CM Evo TX3) really isn't up for it, and the rig is starting to become old, I keep it at stock clock 3.3 GHz nowadays.

Edit: ah, had to crank it up to 4 GHz and do a run. Left everything else in auto (memory speed/timings, etc), couldn't remember what settings I used back in the day. Seems to be a small improvement at least 😀

Very nice, I like the use of that GPU.

Thanks. It's a nice "budget" card for less than 150 bucks. The graphics on this game amazes me of course I'm new to all this so can't imagine what the new games look like on modern hardware.

FYI, GOG is having a Spring Sale and Crysis is only $4.99 for a little while.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

I remember first playing Crysis on a P4 @ 2.85Ghz with 2GB DDR RAM, and a Radeon x850XT PE 256MB. Times have changed. 😎

Not too much different sadly. Cross platform development between PC and console saw to that. 🙁

Some smaller titles are quite different, but AAA titles generally don't stray too far from the established path. Too much money tied up in production to take too many risks.

Ouch, never expected a HD2900XT to be that weak. Maybe choking on 2GB system RAM?

My benchmark doesn't even run on Windows 10.

I ran a 8800gtx is this system previously and 2GB was enough.
I also ran it in dx9 more and the framerate doubled to ~16 fps.

512MB isn't nearly enough for Very High + FullHD my friend.
GTX 280/GTX 285 can barely do 30FPS Avg. with Very High settings and Full HD.

I guess I'll have to run more tests with textures/resolution set lower. Shame the 1GB versions are hard to come by for a decent price.

I had a go at this with my main Windows 10 PC:

4770K slight overclock
8GB DDR3 2133MHz
8GB AMD 390X Stock

Average 88FPS (yay for rounding 😉 ) on the DX10 "very high" settings.

I think I'll try it on my Core 2 Duo / Nvidia 440 Windows 7 PC!
