VOGONS

I recently purchased what was advertised as a Geforce2 Ultra, and what I received turned out to be what 98SE recognizes as a Quadro2 Pro.

I've done some poking around Vogons for information on this card, and I thought I would create a thread on it for some definitive info from other owners.

Based on the specs from Nvidia's website, it seems as though the Quadro 2 Pro is ALMOST the same as a Geforce 2 Ultra. One difference is the bandwidth (7.36 GB/s for GF2 Ultra vs 6.4GB/s for Quadro2). Also, the Quadro2 has a 256-bit core vs. the 128-bit core of the GF2 Ultra.

Apparently, the Quadro2's DVI port is not available on the GF2 Ultra?

The card is very fast: 52.4 FPS on Unreal Gold at 1600x1200 with a Tualeron 1300 (almost exactly the same speed as a V5 5500 using Glide at the same resolution).

Are there any other issues or missing features with the Quadro2 Pro that would make it an inferior gaming card to the GF2 Ultra?

I have an Elsa Gloria III, the memory overclocks far beyond Geforce 2 Ultra clocks 😀

In this thread, half way down on the first page you can see more performance numbers.
Video Cards for Windows 9x benched on a very fast Windows 98SE system.

There is no reason at all to be unhappy over getting a Quadro 2 Pro instead of a Geforce 2 Ultra 😀

Yes, that's my card. I didn't know that it was an Elsa Gloria III.

I haven't tried to overclock an Nvidia card in many years. Is rivatuner still a viable application?

I love your benchmarking thread, especially since my 98SE build runs an Athlon XP 2400+ on a Soyo SY-K7VTA Pro. I also use 45.23. I recently started a thread on it, in which I included my 3DMark01 score with a Ti4600: 8933.

That project died as I got sidetracked 😜

I still have the system intact though so I might continue the benching some day. The conclusion so far is that you can play anything in Windows 98 at 640*480 with a potato as video card, its only at high resolution you need anything better.

For overclocking I used Powerstrip and perhaps Rivatuner, I dont really remember.

I've also got a Quadro 2 Pro.

AFAIK, it is the workstation version of the GeForce2 Ti:

When it comes to clocks the Quadro 2 Pro is the same as the GF2 Ti yes, but not hardware wise. The Quadro 2 Pro uses the same PCB and power circuitry as the GF2 Ultra, only with more conservative clocks for extra reliability. DVI is also a common thing on the Quadro 2 Pro and not on the Ultra 😀

Anyone try the DVI on Quadro 2 Pro with a high resolution monitor? I have a "SGI V3" GeForce 256 DDR with DVI that can't handle my 1920x1200 monitor. I also have a GeForce3 DVI and it works fine.

Ah, interesting. A hybrid using the best features of both cards 😀

Hmm, I could test this for you tomorrow.

That would be appreciated. I would like to have a DVI GeForce2/Quadro2 around if it can work with my LCD...

Not good news 😒

At 1920 x 1200 and also 1680 x 1050, the image is a narrow vertical strip.

I guess I'm not surprised. Thanks for trying it.

I use a Quadro 2 Pro in my K6-2+ system on a ASUS P5A. I don't use DVI often since I have V2 SLI chained. Maybe when I do capture from the Quadro 2 Pro.
I didn't tried overclocking as the card is already overkill for the K6-2+.

From the card in another System: ftp://78.46.141.148/pictures/quadro2pro.png
The card: http://mail.lipsia.de/~enigma/neu/pics/elsa_g … 2_pro_front.jpg
(it's an ELSA GLORIA III)

It would be interesting of someone else could test if this card is less problematic in SS7 boards than the normal GF2 using full AGP speed (2x).

I got this Quadro 2 Pro (ELSA Gloria III) to output 1920x1200 on DVI. For some reason, you need to enable aspect ratio scaling in the NV control panel.

The Silicon Image DVI chip on these cards is still quirky but it's better than the one used on the DVI GeForce 256 cards. The GeForce 256 card I have, the SGI V3, does not output anything on this Dell 2405FPW monitor. GeForce3 on the other hand works better than this Quadro 2 Pro. GeForce 3/4 seem pretty similar in their behavior. It actually improves with drivers too (drivers prior to 45.23 may have display corruption as Windows starts). All of these use a Silicon Image DVI chip of some variety.

Necroposting I guess. I put this card in my 440bx Pentium 2 build and have a strange issue with the DVI port. I only have one display with DVI so it might not be the card at all. But I never had this issue with other computers with DVI ports.

During post i get a strange effect and the screen goes blank.

If I restart the display it shows a normal picture again. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, seemingly random.

+1 ... I've had similar issues with DVI port on the Quadro2 Pro, I think it's a design flaw.

Tried to upgrade the bios but card wasnt recognized. I don't know what I did wrong.

The DVI function seems busted. Lost Vikings played ok but Settlers 1 had messed up graphics. It was ok using the VGA connector. Maybe it is not compatible with my ms6119.
