Here we go...here we go...
Problems. I hate them. Certainly you can't have peace of mind.

I bought these itens a week ago for 15$:

- Media Vision PAS 16 (everything is fine, just couldn't get it to work on a FIC PIO-2 (486 board). I am investigating the problem instead of just using the device on another PC. I like like that. Maybe something's wrong with my FIC PIO-2).
- (3) 486 board

  • - M919 (no beeps, no nothing). Can't repair, dont know, i don't care.
    - FIC PIO-2 (no beeps, no nothing). I already have it. I don't care.
    - ALD VL4200 (no beeps or rarely a lot of beeps and no screen). And for that, i am over here.

    Sure is a beauty

Presenting 3 VLB slots shinning bright, Windows BIOS totally splendid and there is this star. Can you see it ?

Let me start telling you the good news. Troubleshoot was easy ( 😈 awesome! 😈 ) but i went
through heaven and hell in one second. Keep reading...

I could save the ALD VL4200 by taking out the BIOS from the socket. Immediately i noticed some
green stuff in the metal pins and there was corrosion. I cleared everything, but in the process,
when i was almost there...PEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIII. One goddamn pin fell off. 😳 😳 😳

It was like some freakin' stabbed a dagger in my heart.
I was so nuts and angry, i took the broken pin and putted it in the socket, installed the BIOS chip in
correct orientation and placed a Hard disk on the chip, so that the connection was made
without bad contact.

This abomination worked for 30 minutes, but the bad contact was present (computer would freeze
in BIOS or in MS-DOS as soon as i touched the MOBO or BIOS chip. At some point, i couldn't get
beeps, POST or codes from PC analyzer any longer.

I assume the device has been destroyed. Please peruse the following:

TC57512AD-15.pdf

(page 6, note 2)

Right now i have 3 broken pins in the BIOS chip. Any ideas ?

I am using 32MB (2x16) of RAM FPM, Cyrix 5X86c running at 100Mhz (is this underclocked ?)
and a HMC ISA video card (All tested and working great).

She's gonna freakin' die ! she's gonna freakin' die ! Help me !
Freak! freak ! freak ! Heeeeeeeelp meee !!!
Shit ! (alrighty...this is for the honour of Vinnie Gognitti)

What !??? I Just had to remember something funny.

So what if the bios legs are falling apart? If that is the only problem then just solder some replacement legs, use a programmer to make an image of the BIOS and then write it in a new chip. Or if you have the BIOS in a file just write a new chip.

But you need to deactivate the acid on the mobo, vinegar is a good substance to do that.

Backup that BIOS image. Once you do that the chip itself is not very important anymore.

It looks like my only route is hoping for someone, who happens to have the same MOBO,
to upload the ROM over here. Then and only then, i would proceed buying this chip:

http://pt.aliexpress.com/item/5pcs-lot-TC5751 … 2400556963.html

Somebody told me it's gonna be difficult to find someone who knows how to record the ROM.

I know it is just a dream, probably nobody knows ALD, but people don't stop dreaming because they get old, they get old because they stop dreaming.

Well, i thought i did some damage to the chip.
I tried to solder a leg from another BIOS chip, but i failed. I´ll try again, but i am up to no good.

Yeah, its easy for me using a programmer/upgrading BIOSES. No problem.
Unfortunately i don't have the ROM. BAD MISTAKE.

One more thing. This board uses coin battery. Where did this acid come from ? Strange, no ?

Then i will do that. Thanks, man !

ah... well you can solder a cable too for the programmer to read the chip... just make sure that the leg is clean and solder catches on.
Coin batteries do leak but not much.... most likely something else leaked nearby on the mobo, maybe when it was stored

I've dumped ROMs with completely cut off pins by doing the following. Just hold very still during the read process!

My Leo was completely covered with marks from a leaking coin battery, so do not underestimate their ability to leak.

If you have a spare chip socket it may be easier to put that in your programmer as you can easily jam things into it with the chip which will contact the missing pins. I use legs from spare components or pieces of solid wire with its insulation stripped off. Anything conductive will work, even small screwdrivers and sewing pins have served for this before - in fact, I used the latter on a motherboard for years and it worked. This leaves both your hands free.

I refined the data, and came to the conclusion programmer is a hardware.
I can do my way through a Flash Bios program, which is a software.

So, i am sorry for the confusion. I dont have a programmer.

Santiago del Chile, dearest of my friends ! Sorry
Really sorry, HighTreason and Keropi.

I am young, i can learn.

See if you can buy a cheap EEPROM programmer and a compatible EEPROM chip. It shouldn't be that hard.

I thought it was a bit gratuitous, just like Max Payne 😁

Yes, I used that photo. My motherboard is equal, however i am using a Cyrix 586 and 32MB of RAM (2X16 FPM).

Thats great. Thats FREAKING great.

Now everyone knows I own a worthless 300$ equipment. Very well, detective. 🙁
Keropi probaby wont raise a finger to help me. 😵
