The Azza PT-5VMX is a MVP3 Super Socket 7 ATX motherboard and I cannot find a K6-2+/K6-3+ friendly BIOS

I did find a Azza PT-5VMD BIOS. It appears to be the AT version of the above board. Think I should try to flash it?

Gateway 2000 Case and 200-Watt PSU
Intel SE440BX-2 Motherboard
Intel Pentium III 450 CPU
Micron 384MB SDRAM (3x128)
Compaq Voodoo3 3500 TV Graphics Card
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card
Western Digital 7200-RPM, 8MB-Cache, 160GB Hard Drive
Windows 98 SE

Well I found another flash chip, did a hotswap flash with the original PT-5VMX BIOS and that worked using uniflash.

Then I flashed the PT-VMD BIOS two different ways, one with bootblock and one without. Both failures.

Please help locate Azza PT-5VMX BIOS with K6-2+/K6-3+ support. Shouldn't be very different than the PT-5VMD, so possibly a BIOS edit? Same chipset, etc.

Found interesting information to get a non+ motherboard to boot. Set the CPU multiplier to 3. Worked for me. The CPU is identified as "-MMX" and the speed shows "60-MHz" or "66-MHz". Setmul correctly identifies chip and speed as 300-MHz until I set it with Setmul to 450. This is a last resort for me but at least I can keep going until I find a proper BIOS.

Hi TimWolf,

Just use the 07/04/2000 BIOS from https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/azza-5 … -5vmx#downloads

I’ve checked this BIOS and it has full K6-2+/K6-III+ support, and also supports drives up to 128 GiB. 😀

Note that a K6-III+ will be indicated as an AMD K6-III CPU. This is true for all Award BIOSes with native K6-2+/K6-III+ support and this is according the directives from AMD.
Only patched BIOSes indicate a K6-III+ as a K6-III+ 😉
So if you see AMD K6-III when running a K6-III+, you know that the BIOS fully supports your K6-III+!

Please let us know if the K6-III+ works fine on your PT-5VMX board, so I can add it to my K6plus list.

Cheers, Jan

Just got a K6-2+ and I can confirm it works great with this Motherboard with the BIOS from 07/04/2000, CPU name is correctly displayed on splash screen.
Struggling now to make my AGP video cards work in Win 98SE, but that is a different topic.

Hi Pino,

Thanks for reporting success with running a K6-2+ on your PT-5VMX board with the 07/04/2000 BIOS! 😀
I will add this board and BIOS to my K6plus webpage at the next update.
