Since I'm having trouble finding a beige case with front panel connections (USB/audio) thinking about getting a "modern" black case that has them. My question is how hard is it going to be connecting the panel connectors to retro mobo and sound card. Mobo is an Intel SE440BX and the sound card is a SB Live! 5.1? My current set up is an old AOpen case with a Kingwin 5.25 front panel add-on but the connectors are the "pass thru" type which looks like crap but might be the best I can do for retro rig. Any thoughts?

For USB you could get a PCI USB card with internal connectors.

For the SB Live! you can get a Live drive but 99% sure they don't come in black and later Audigy Live Drive's aren't compatible.
I was to do something similar with my Audigy 2 and case front panel connectors, which is do-able, if a bit messy.

SB live! doesn't have header for front panel audio. You can google for solutions but there isn't an easy one. The way you have set it up now probably is the best.

According to these guys, it is possible:

As far as I know, SB Live SB0200 and SB0220 (Dell OEM versions) sometimes have that white connector (there are both "white connector soldered"" and "white connector omittted" versions around). I also definately know that SB Live CT4780 has this same connector, too.

Apart from live cards, Audigy LS SB0310 and Audigy 2 ZS SB0350 that I have also has these connectors.
