It's a great idea but as with selling and trading, Vogons is not the place for it. The potential for people feeling they got cheated is too high. And that leads to people suing the platform they were cheated on -> Vogons.
And as you can see, people will register just to eventually receive a freebie. Vogons doesn't aim at getting the most users, it's aim is a community (or I think that's the aim 😉) and people just joining and posting to get a freebie doesn't help a community...

Fully agreed here.

True that Vogons aim at being a community. In that light I see that this is a bad idea.
The thing about customers taxing something that are labeled as a gift, I heard about that before.
(Even here in Denmark)

Just keep in mind, that this is all ment as a sort of nice and positive gesture.
I will never ever ship something for new users.
I need to know, that the one I give something, is a long lasting member.
(Or a member that has been active a lot)
It is like if a person has given a lot of advice and given the community a lot, then I will
probably decide to give something to that person.

I am thinking of user's that know and are ok, with stuff portentially breaking in the mail.
Users like: HighTreason, Phil, Badmojo, Tetrium, RacoonRider, Gamecollector and easy_john.
Those are just examples of user's, not that I would just ship anything for them, without asking
for an mailing adress first. People have the right to say no. 🤣

The only thing I need to ask that person for, is a shipping adress, nothing more,
and if it breaks in the mail. Well.... Then it was worth a try.

I know, and my personal list would've had the same criteria, but for some reason I'd rather have longer term members come and actually visit me, that's much more interesting to me 😁 (I see you live in Denmark, that's like only a one day drive from where I live 😜), so the idea may sound really good, there are some potential technical difficulties I'll give an example of now.
The problem with both sending stuff and visiting comes from when someone who isn't on that list asks to be included, even though I would rather not, but that would mean I would have to turn that person down and I fear things will all go down the drain from there and result in significantly increased levels of forum ickyness 😢

You can put them in the attic, plenty space there 😜 (the hatch to the attic is quite small and the stairs are steep, so the last bit you may have to give em a 'little' nudge 🤣).
And I got a spare bedroom anyway 😁

Hey, maybe you could record one of your video's in my attic! 😁 (provided you cut me out of all published footage 😊 )

Dunno how many ATX cases will fit inside your suitcases, but a hammer and we will make everything fit just fine 😁

The only music-request one can make, is when one scream "Play some slayer"... 🤣
Beer is ok priced.....

When I have some ATX-Cases or something like that, you are most welcome to pick it up.

Nice! I like bars 😁
Can I do requests? In that case (har har) I'll ask for "You suffer" by "Napalm Death" 😁

Or maybe I should just melt down all my ATX cases, use the metal to build myself a tank and rob you of yours 😁

Just kidding of course, would never touch anyone else's stuff without asking first 😉

I remember a sign, asking not to ask for requests... 😀
On the other hand, it is written "Play some slayer" on the wall. 🤣
And yes they did. We heard slayer that night. 😜

It's actually a small bar, resided on the first floor.
Every windows is painted black, and it's alowed to smoke tobacco all you want.
Lot's of alternative people. Metalheads, goth's and so on.
You won't find any punker's there, as they allway's want to fight when they see a goth.

Better take my cases, and turn them into tanks then.
If I on the other hand are allowed to do gold ring's from you'r agp-cards and isa boards. 🤣

Looks like I'll have to find some other form of transportation then 😁

Looks like I finally found a purpose for all my crappy Ati cards yay! 🤣!
And I don't wanna sacrifice my ISA 2MB Diamond Speedstar 😢

Paying for the shipments costs is still a monetary thing. So this falls under trading.
Just imagine, somebody paying for something to be shipped but it doesn't arrive... Didn't the "seller" send it ? Is the receiver "lying" ? Or just Postal problems ?
I think we had a thread where this went actually wrong. Somebody sending out free stuff in exchange for shipping , but some people didn't receive it (in a reasonable time)

Not my intention that someone has to pay for getting stuff. 😀
I started this discussion with the one that gives away, pays for shipping too. 😉
I have a feeling that people just did not understand my intentions on this.
And if someone complains about what type of thing they get for free, I call them spoiled.
Shure there is an responsebility in shipping away decent working stuff. 😉

Imagine, you would happen to get someones old stash of good gear.
And you happen to get 4 Voodoo2 cards. Now... You have 6 in your collection in the first place.
(plus the four you got, wich now makes it ten)

Why would that be a bad thing to pay for the shipping and give it away?
On the other hand... If you ship 5 external modems, then you are a ducebag.
It's all about the responsebility on this.

Your intentions are honorable, there's no confusion there 😀

But while you're clarifying stuff... what's the meaning of this?? 😕

There is another complication here: Vogons comunity is international, and international shipping can have its issues. Lost packages are a bad thing, but its customs that can really wreck havoc, as if brazilian customs, for example, decide to tax a package even when tagged as a gift (they can do that), I could end up paying more for the mistery package than I would buying the same thing locally.

No packages to Brazil. Check.

Ahh.... Yeah, that thing....
You know the cakes of dust and sometimes smoke from cigarettes, that are clotting a CPU cooler so it won't run!!? 😉 😁
Yeahhh... DONT!

EDIT:
It is loosly based on bad cleaned pc's, a little slice of The Cramp's "Don't eat stuff of the sidewalk" and a doze
of really dark humour... Even the universal timetravel code, are coined at booting retro computers and revisiting the past.

If you translate my username from Danish to English, it would spell "Cobblestone". (Another little twist)
And my avatar, is actually a picture of a painting on canvas that I painted in 2013.

On the topic... I love the idea and goal and would participate without hesitation, I fear what happens when something will go wrong (it's inevitable).

Lend-a-soundcard / Lend-a-videocard project would be nice for rarities, allowing people to try/use/hear the rare hardware they never could afford or find, then return them.
Involves a lot of TRUST though, and not for the faint of heart.

The more sound cards, the better.

Well... If I give away, then I give it away. And only if I have more than three of each, or if I have something else I rather use.
All about giving.

Well....
Time to get this one here, off the ground. Today I recieved some hardware from a fellow user.
And yes. It was a "Mystrie pack", as I have described in this topic, in the first place.
So here we go (I know that I posted in another) Yet it belongs here actually.

Going to repeat my self again.
Yes. I know I posted in "bought" earlier. And yes... Wrong place, as it belongs here.
Just want to show people that this can be lifted off the ground.
I have not paid anything for this. The one that shipped this for me, have decided
what went into the package. Next package I am going to ship for him, I am going to pay.
He will not pay for what I will ship for him, and he does not know what is going hi's way.
Well... He knows one thing or two. 😉 Just not all. As well as I did not know about the C-116.
