I'd choose a Geforce, or a Geforce 2 if you are not strictly period correct. You should look for a Nvidia rather than an ATI, they have better support in Dos.

For period correct hardware, then either a Riva TNT2 Ultra or a Geforce 256.

It's been a long time since you made a new comparison on your channel, but your YT channel is Awesome. I always watch your videos over and over again 😁

You can also have a look on Geforce 2 MX series. The speed is at Geforce256 level. I don't know how many are available at your place, but during the last weeks i was also searching a graphic card for my K6-2 500 CPU.

Nowadays the Voodoo graphic cards are really expensive. So i've decided to go with a Nvidia card. The market with RivaTNT is also really confusing. A lot of M64 cards are out there and it's difficult to separate them to get a real TNT (with 128bit interface).

Because there's not a big range of Geforce256 on ebay, i've bought a Geforce 2MX-400 (for 1€) which was a good choice.

And ATI Rage Fury MAXX.

Sure and one can buy three or four V3 3k for the price of one Rage Fury Max and that is with the huge mark up on 3DFX cards atm. The re-sellers eBay are really sticking it to us 😢

I second the Geforce 2 mx cards. Mainly because they are so cheap and plentiful, if you can I would try to go for one of the MX400 cards because they are a tad bit faster. Here is an Abit one for an example on ebay right now http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Gaming-Comput … dYAAOSweuxWRArq you can get them passive or actively cooled as well which is nice. Not that they really need fans 🤣.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Agreed and greedy eBay sellers can't get away with selling them at huge prices with there being so many 😀

One of these cards are good enough: TNT2-Pro/Ultra, Geforce2-GTS/Pro, Matrox-G400/G400-Max, Voodoo3-3000/3500.

TNT2's are really good for 1998 to 2000 games, same goes for Matrox and Voodoo. The top dog's on the list are GF2.
Just don't go higher than that.... A mix of GF2 and V2-SLI would also be something to consider.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

is your 500mhz a Katmai or a Coppermine?

If its Kamati it came out one month before the TNT2, so TNT/TNT2 would be in line

if its Coppermine TNT2/Geforce SDR are more appropriate,

As far as best card, a Pentium 3 500 will work ok for up to a Geforce 2 GTS, games that would need more wont run on a P3 500 and need more along the lines of a P3 800 or better.
