Disk imaging is your friend 😀

What I like to do is format the drive, install Window 98, install Internet Explorer 6, then take an image with Clonezilla. Then I copy over everything I need (drivers, utilities, patches, etc.) and get to work. If I want to swap hardware later on, I take another image and restore the clean one.

I agree that Windows 98 is very fragile compared to XP. Without the system restore tool, a single mishap can result in a completely hosed install. Like Phil said, the best strategy is to avoid changing hardware or drivers mid-stream.

In any case, if you just want the updates from MS, you can use the official Microsoft update CD image that is available on vogonsdrivers.

Thank's. Last June I've installed the Unofficial Service Pack that released back on that month and I read that we only need the 2.1a version.

I need the 2.1a version or only the CD update you provided me?
