Recently noticed that some games don't have any stereo separation on my GUS (classic, earlyish revision), whereas they do on SB16.
Games affected seem to be those that perform hardware mixing: the pinball games, Crusader: No Remorse.
Cubic Player is fine though, as are other games with GUS support (Doom, Duke3D etc).
Is this just the way it is? Seems strange to me.

Can you name a specific pinball game + config as test case to check?

Pinball Fantasies & Illusions for sure. Dreams too I think. On SB16 some instruments in the music are panned hard left or right, whereas on my GUS they are all centred.

Default settings with either GUS or Soundblaster 16 selected.

After further testing I think there is some panning on GUS in Dreams and Fantasies, just not the hard panning seen on SB16. The hard panning is kind of annoying after a while actually.

In Illusions, GUS output seems totally mono, but sounds nice with partial panning on SB16.
I wonder if Illusions doesn't use hardware mixing on GUS, as it allows sound quality/mixing rate to be set when GUS is selected, in the same way as the SB16.

In Dreams/Fantasies, selecting GUS doesn't allow quality to be set.
