Stumbled upon a piece of DOS software called 386to486 that claims to bring a 386DX to the performance of a 486DX2 66MHz. Anyone tried it? Is it just bogus? Don't have a 386 system myself, I'm just curious.

Found some similar piece of software that claims if I install it on my 486 it will make my I7 Quad obsolete 😉

But seriously, you can't get 386 to 486 performance. Not even 486sx, I believe, not to mention dx2 66 powerhouse.

Of course it doesn't work. The only thing I've seen this and similar programs doing is to emulate/report a co-processor so that programs that require a 486 run. Or better "walk".
I didn't know about this one in particular though and went through its readme file. Hilarious 😀 Certainly written by a 15 year old. It'd be fun if someone could try it with some benchmarking/system id tools to see if it does anything at all, I don't own a DX.

Just tried it in DOSBox, looks like complete bogus. Claims to be a TSR, but it doesn't take up any memory.

Must be a part of some april fools joke 😜

I tried something like that in the 90's.
That piece of crap I loaded, made the PC unstable.
Never did it again.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

yeah, there was a bunch of stuff like that. In my wrapper research I found something someone said was a "Voodoo emulator". Written in 1997 or something. Was a .exe you ran. I didn't even have to run it or disassemble it, I laughed my ass off. 😜
