Hey Guys;

has anyone been able to get WiFi working in Windows98. i have recently purchased a WMP54G but having huge issues with it. i have a clean install of windows 98, i have installed the software and drivers.

but when i try to connect it only connects to the router and is unable to retrieve a valid ip address. it gives me an IP address out of my range which is 169.254.55.70. i have manually added the MAC address is my DHCP, but still unable to retrieve an Ip address.

i heard people saying windows 98 doesn't support the WPA protocol. much help appreciated.
i have tried all the usual stuff removed PCI, uninstalled drivers etc.

I have used WiFi without problems with an Ralink RT2500 PCI card. That was on Windows 98SE, and I used WPA protocol, actually WPA2 doesn't work.
On plain Windows 98 or 95 I have used Orinoco Gold PCMCIA card with WEP protocol. Actually, I always connect my 9x, or even DOS (laptops with Orinoco) machines to the Internet by WiFi.

Try to disable encryption for a while and check if it works. I remember experiencing similar behavior when I connected to a WEP network with a wrong password. It is possible to estabilish the connection, but nothing actually works.
