nope. no weird beeping at all. its a 16bit card in an 8bit slot.

I have got a Trident TVGA 9016 X2/X4 LT2, 512kb ram. Uses the 9000B chipset.

the one at the very top of this page; http://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/component … ident-tvga9000b

this card is known to work in XT's, I did have to solder 3 header pins so I could jumper them to make it work in an 8bit slot.

Here's a weird idea. Why don't you unsolder the speaker until you figure it out?

I/O, I/O,
It's off to disk I go,
With a bit and a byte
And a read and a write,
I/O, I/O

Is the NEC UPB8284AD a cmos chip? The datasheet says mos level output for cup and ttl level for peripherals.

Maybe I should have used the capacitors instead of resistors at r8 and r9.

http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/vi … /UPB8284AD.html says it's bipolar, i.e. TTL.

However if you read further down it says that the PCLK signal it gives is TTL, whereas the CLK output is CMOS. It's not really clear from the datasheet exactly what that means.

Yeah that is what confused me. I don't know if I should use the resistors or capacitors in that case?

It looks like the resistors/caps are on pins 16 and 17, which aren't the cpu lines. I am probably doing it right.

16/17 are the crystal X1/X2 lines. if your going to measure the freq, you need the OSC pin, pin 12. dont measure directly on the x1/x2 (16/17) lines.

I have the 82C84A Intersil which I got new from mouser, its a CMOS version but in/outs are noted as TTL compatible.

THanks, but I'm not to the point of measuring anything yet; I have nothing that's capable of measuring something like this, just basic/mid-range multimeter.

I was more concerned with whether I needed the capacitors or the resistors detailed on Sergey's build page.

I'll be rifling through my dad's drawers to see if he has something that I can use to calibrate this.

Got my CF-Lite built. Now I just need to prepare the CF card (got a 64mb one).. The trick will be finding out how dosbox handles the geometry vs how its handled on the actual pc.

You can also use Qemu and specifiy the Device as Harddrive to get a OS on it.
If you use Linux is pretty easy. Just pass Devive file to Qemu. (Windows should work too, but i never tried it)
Qemu allows also do specifiy disk geometry.

yeah. i can pass geom through dosbox and bochs too. I just need to figure out what geom xt-cf-lite thinks it is so I can match it. maybe todays task since its supposed to hit 100F here in VA..

spent all morning futzing with the cf card.. nothing. dead. last step I did I reflashed the xi8088 to NOT include the xt cf bios in it and load the xt-cf-lite bios at 0xd000...

and that shows life.. but its garbled. something else going on now but at least that card comes up and it identifies the cf card on it (LEXAR ATA FLASH)...

aaah trouble shooting..

i do see for a second at the top of screen A>FDD[A], C>HDD[C] F6 ComDtct F8 RomBoot

then it goes into a reboot loop, so I dont even get to press a key or anything....

aaaaargh

very strange it does not like the XT IDE bios as part of the main xi8088 bios..

nice. thats my next step, recombine the current xt cf bios into the main bios.

sergey has a github but none of the code is up there. ugh.
