Hello, I'm trying to get WFW 3.11 running on an old Pentium Pro system, without success. MS-DOS 6.22. It just hangs on the splash screen.

I've tried:

- Disabling all sound/networking drivers (in both DOS and the Windows installer)
- Physically limiting system memory to 128 MB
- Physically removing all expansion cards

I've tried installing from floppies and also from the Windows NT 3.51 CD-ROM, with same result.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is this too much voodoo?

Using default VGA drivers. I've tried the following cards, all with the same result:

- Integrated ATI mach64 (1 MB)
- Matrox Millennium PCI (4 MB)

Is this too much voodoo?

There could be something messed up in system.ini file, maybe related to soundcards you have installed (I have experienced similar problems due to some GUS referrences in system.ini). Not sure, though.

Yes, something similar. One of my Compaq laptops is not compatible with WfW 3.11.
After the spash screen, when program manager is loaded, it just freezes.
Windows 3.1, however, runs without any problems.

OK I got it to run with the /D:V compatibility option:

Specifies that the ROM routine will handle interrupts from the hard disk controller

What does this mean?

"Win /n
This switch starts Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with no Windows protect mode network drivers loaded. It is useful if you think one of the network drivers is causing your problem. You might also use this switch if you are using a portable computer when is not hooked up to a network card. "

If you have enabled networking, and you are not plugged into a network, Windows for Workgroups refuses to start, and hangs on at splash screen. Your problem might be that.

Hi. No it's something to do with the hard disk:

Adding VirtualHDIRQ=off to [386Enh] has fixed it. Apparently I have a non-standard hard disk (IBM DNES-309170)
