I just recently acquired a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.46Ghz, the pinnacle of the old Northwood core. I'd love to get to building a system around it, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any conclusive information about which boards will fully support it. It looks like it might work on the 975X chipset, but very few 975 boards list it among their supported CPUs.

Has anyone here successfully run one of these on anything other than a 925XE board? Were there any issues? Did the L3 cache function?

ASRock 775Dual-VSTA (i know 😀, but only on official BIOS)
Proof : LINK
It sometimes will miss that there is L3 cache (and it will show as Northwood in CPU-z), but restart usually helps. BIOS reset fixes this problem 100% of the times for me.

ASUS P5WD2 Premium, proof : LINK
Didn't tried it in other (975X) boards.

The D975XBX2 definitely lists it, and the D975XBX probably supports it too.

3.46 is not the pinnacle, looks like you want the 965 for that : http://ark.intel.com/products/27615/Intel-Pen … Hz-1066-MHz-FSB
