Hi everyone

I've acquired by first classic soundblaster card today! I've installed the drivers using the files from https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fil … =33&menustate=0 and digital sound and music work great when I did a quick test with Descen.t

However, when I run the "Diagnose" utility, I receive an error that it cannot set the MPU-401 port to 300 or 330 ... does anyone have any advice as to what I can check? And is this even a problem?

I apologise in advance if it's something simple, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to these old sound cards under DOS.

It might be conflicting with another card. Can you list the specifications of this computer?

Or open the case and take some photos?

Also what DOS are you using?

Biostar M5SAA Motherboard
Pentium 200MMX CPU
64MB SDRAM
Riva TNT 16MB PCI video card
Creative Vibra16 ISA Card CT2900

DOS 6.22

The motherboard has onboard sound which I have disabled from the BIOS option - "Onboard PCI Sound Chip" is set to [Disabled]

I have also disabled the onboard serial ports, USB Controller and parallel port from the "Integrated peripherals" section, and the onboard video is disabled via a jumper on the board.

The manual is here if it helps explain what im talking about ftp://ftp.biostar-usa.com/manuals/M5SAA/M5SAAmanual.pdf

No thats it, just the 2 cards.

I did find some info from googling that apparently the DIAGNOSE.EXE utility doesn't work properly if theres a jumper on the card set to open ... but I can't find anything labelled as "MPUEN"

Ok. Now did the drivers install fine however?

When I say drivers, I'm referring to the SBBASIC driver package.

I've had DIAGNOSE through errors before, but the card working fine.

Are you trying to run a wavetable board or MIDI module through 330?

I didn't know the Vibra needed special drivers. I just use the regular SB 16 drivers (294XW3D1.ZIP, 294XW3D2.ZIP, 294XW3D3.ZIP, 294XW3D4.ZIP). They work fine. The Vibra is detected as a Vibra and you get a C:\VIBRA16 directory instead of the usual C:\SB16

Is this too much voodoo?

Turns out it was a problem with the version of DIAGNOSE that comes with the package I linked

I used the version from here http://support.creative.com/downloads/downloa … nDownloadId=271 and it works fine and lets me test the card
