Installed a new usb keyboard and mouse on Win98SE and at first all seemed well, but lately every other boot up the cursor/screen freezes at the desktop (sometimes doesn't make it to that). Both keyboard and mouse both show power through their "fancy lights".

Checked devices under cp and noticed mouse PS/2 had an error/exclamation point sign to it, so disabled it and for now seems fine. Both keyboard/mouse really only compatible to XP but thought I'd try it anyway. Should I forget about legacy usb in Win98se and go back to boring ps/2 connections?

USB keyboard and mouse should work fine under Windows 98.

You might want to boot into safe mode, take a look in device manager and see if the old PS/2 keyboard is still listed. Delete it if it is.

This is for the onboard USB (mobo Intel SE440BX). Tried deleting the ps/2 under devices but it would just re-install it on the next boot however didn't do it in safe mode. Would that make a difference?
