I have a MHz-display on my case but no 5V on the motherboard (a 486 PCI motherboad from 1993). The motherboard manual suggest using the pin for Turbo LED, but the current (i think) is not enough.
Could I use the 5V from a molex connector?

Shure you can. I have done it in the past. Be aware of plus and minus 5 volt.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

Shouldn't be -5V on a molex connector.

Sorry.... I meant ground. Don't know why I thought about it this way.

Sure! Those displays used to be connected to a standard molex by using this kind of adaptor, at least in a couple 486 systems I had in the past 😀

In fact, many AT power supplies used to come with a 2-pin 5V connector for the MHz display panel in addition to the molex and floppy plugs, which in many cases led to sad stories of people plugging that into the motherboard and magic smoke appearing.

I see! When I bought my P-mmx last year it came with an old and malfunctioning AT psu. I asked myself a couple of times the purpose of that connector, now it makes sense. Many things to learn here on Vogons 😀
