Hi all,

50 pcs of DreamBlaster X1 were ever sold, I am out of stock now, and I don't plan to make another run of this model.
So the card is pretty rare. If you bought one, my deepest thanks for supporting my projects, and take good care of it.
😀

A 'successor' will be ready soon : I designed and tested a new waveblaster board, the past months, X2.
Status : The prototype works fine, sent out 2 units to friends for evaluation.
The new X2 assembled PCB's should be ready for shipping by end of november.

You can't just say 'X2' without giving some more content... you teaser!
Give us something..

Can it load soundfonts?
If not, does it sound good?
Can I throw my Sound Canvas?

Some Doom E1M1 and Duke3D Grabbag samples will tell me all I need to know. 😀

Out of quriosity, I am looking forward to see what the X2 will be.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that was all that sold. We know eviljoeclark has 3 and Phil has one. I figured after Phil's review that way more than that would've sold.

I'm a proud owner of the S1 myself. Thank you!

Ok it just needs 128MB General MIDI, sound fonts, Yamaha XG, MT-32, Sound Canvas and most importantly make me waffles (handmade, not frozen... and real maple syrup... ohh ohh and that creamed butter).

Ok really though, I cannot wait to hear more about it. I too, own an S1 (love it) and was thinking about getting an X1 but I guess I can wait a little while longer for something better.

Because it will make waffles

I don't... just being optimistic and I can't get an X1 now anyways

Didn't even know this project existed until now. Looks like I'll have to pick up the X2 when released, assuming that the X2 sounds at least as good as the X1. And yes, a few grab bag samples from Duke3d and Doom would be really nice 😀

Edit: had to pick up an S1 while I wait 😁

I guess this indicates that the $30 pricepoint is much more attractive to retro gamers than $80 for MIDI daughtercards. Hopefully that is something you guys keep in mind during X2 development 😉

Not really. I do have two of the Dreamblaster S1, but I also have a Dreamblaster X2M ( DreamBlaster X2M : New MIDI Module 😀) and was thinking of getting a X1 until this announcement. Now I'll just wait for the X2. There are other factors to consider when purchasing a module apart from the price.

And a read and a write,

On the other hand it might indicate that retro community isn't that big or not prepared to pay much for sound upgrades. Most of us had only basic SB back then and I had SB16 from 1995. Before it was just PC speaker 😢

Now I actually hear what I was missing... and I've recently got all the top sound cards and addons (except Adlib) - so I'm all set 😁

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

Oh, man! I just ordered (and received, very quickly, I might add,) a DreamBlaster S1. I hadn't even noticed the X1 on the page! Now I'll have to wait with baited breath for the X2...

I'm happy enough with my DreamBlaster S1, seeing as it's only for fun in Dos games that don't want to use my GUS. I do however, find it immensely cool that people actually make these kind of things. Keep up the good work 😀

WinXP : PIII 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 73GB SCSI HDD, Matrox Parhelia, SB Audigy 2.
Win98se : K6-3+ 500MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Matrox Millennium G400 MAX, Voodoo 2, SW1000XG.
DOS6.22 : Intel DX4, 64MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, Diamond Stealth64 DRAM, GUS 1MB, SB16.

Would it be feasible just to wire up connectors to a sound card and then just somehow connect them to an Arduino or Raspberry Pi or something, and serve up samples that way? Even if it's an appalling kludge that requires wires to be dangling from the computer case, it would still have a certain appeal if it is cheap enough.
