Mostly because non-USB periphery isn't as readily available any more. Didn't used to be that way. Get a collection going and it becomes much less of a pain point.

I remember going to computer fairs in the mid 90s.
There wasnt half as much stuff in the mid to late 90s as there was in the early 2000s
