I was reformatting my Maxtor 7345AT HDD (345MB) today and noticed an interesting graphic on the PCB: a Pontiac GTO.

Anyone have an idea what this means? This is no goat of a HDD. Works fine after 20+ years.

That's really cool! I'd never heard of this before, and I've been a hdd enthusiast since the mid 1990's. Reminds me a bit of the Number 9 graphics cards and their Beatles references. I'm curious what the story is behind this...

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Good comparison with the Number Nine cards. I have one Number Nine AGP card but have never used it.

There's a Roman numeral IV on the license plate. Not sure if that's significant or not.

This is somewhat common back in those times to slip in little graphics and even Cyrix did it 😉

There's also a small cyclops living near the CPU socket on the motherboard of my Compaq Presario 433 😀

BTW, may be this disk came with an OEM system? It could be that the image was made by the company that assembled the computer. Just a guess.

I think it is a pun by the designer of the pcb on the order number of the Pontiac manual:

Nice catch.but would make no sense if it was a GTO repair manual.
