Hi retro-mates:
throught the years, the CPU's artwork has been many changes, so what is your favorite?

In 486 era, the Cyrix DX and the IBM Blue Lightning series, I really like the green/blue heatsink (It was the first time I saw a colored one) 😊

My second favorite is the AMD K6-2/3 Series, i like the engraved graphics on the heatsink, looks very hightech and classy.

My all time favorite one, the Pentium MMX series, probably the most beautiful package ever (IMO)! 😎 😉

bonus, the most cool sticker! 😎

First I was to answer: Ibm 5x86. I'ta very cool. Modern CPUs look crappy next to it.

But for now I would say that I 486 DX2/DX4 Overdrive are my favourite. I love the neat voltage regulator solution in DX4 and both models share this amazing purple colour.

What also comes to my mind is Pentium Overdrive for a very elegantly designed integrated cooler.

The black ones came a bit later, and as far as I know they were all 200MHz cpu's with 1Meg of cache. The more usual ones have 512k, and are those purple things with gold tops.

Anything ceramic, preferable with gold top. Alpha CPU's look cool.
Something a bit like this. Way cooler looking than a Tualatin.

I like the intel logo with the dropped e, as well as the 486 graphic. The original Cyrix logo is also quite good, as well as the 5x86 and 6x86 graphics.

I really like the in-motion Cyrix 386-to-486 logo from their 386 upgrade series.

It's very tough to make a short list without leaving anything out that I want in my list 🤣!

But I've come down to the following.
3rd place: Cyrix MII gold top due to the color of the IHS and the logo, this CPU is quite heavy for a s7.
Cyrix%20MII-300%20%28FSB75%29%20-%20haut.jpg

2nd place: Rise mP6 due to it's color mostly, but also because its design is somewhat interesting in itself to look at 😀
Rise%20MP6%20266%20-%20haut.jpg

1st place!: Celeron PPGA. It's basically the exact same as the later PPGA Pentiums, but I slightly prefer the Celeron ones 😀
Intel%20Celeron%20400%20-%20PPGA%20-%20haut.jpg

Honorable mentions would include:
Some DEC Alpha CPU but can't remember the part numer (the pics on the net don't really do it justice imo)
Pentium 4 Willamette s423
VIA C3
Barton with green packaging
Intel Pentium Overdrive 200, the bottom looks give it an edge over the others imo.
And of course the Intel Overdrive (with dark purple heatsink), the Intel DX2 with blue heatsink and the Cyrix 5x86 with green heatsink

I definately agree with the RiSE MP6 having a neat uniqueness to the design. Same for the Cyrix MIIs - they come off looking important and expensive. For me, #1 are the in-motion Cyrix 5x86 and 6x86 logos found on their CPUs and heatsinks. A close second is the 386 to 486 in-motion found on the Cyrix DRx2 upgrade CPU.

Curious, how are you going to reattach that heatsink? I ask because I have a Cyrix DX2-66 heatsink I took off some time ago and would like to reattach it such that if, at some future time, wanted it removed again, that I wouldn't destroy the printing on the ceramic top.

Also various old pre-5x86 Cyrix logos, especially that 386-to-486 upgrade logo mentioned a few times already in this thread.
