I have an AOpen AP5C/P that seemingly accommodates up to 512k of L2 cache. Currently, the board has a 256k COAST module, but also has unoccupied DIP sockets that could feasibly take the board to 512k of cache.
Is it worth it? What sort of performance gain could you reasonably expect? Does it even matter?

It will be faster on paper and benchmarks , but you won't visually see much difference as you would if you simply used a faster cpu.
Based on the other thread, I went ahead and ordered a P200MMX (again, the best my board has jumper settings for). A 200MMX is around $6-8... a 233MMX is close to $20 with shipping.
I don't think you can mix COAST with DIP modules, because they use different types of SRAM. I recommend getting a 512k COAST module (because you'll take quite a performance hit with async cache).
