Is it possible to upgrade an XT-IDE controller to an AT-IDE controller to use in an 8086 computer? I have an WD FileCard 30MB but the drive is dead and I would like to upgrade it if possible to support an 44MB AT IDE drive that I have (WD93044-A).
The card I have looks something like this, only it has an additional header populated:

8088 and 8086 are XT computers. You need a 286 at least to be AT. I made up one of those Lo-tech 8-bit cf adaptors, it worked even in my 486.

Atari 2600, TI994a, Vic20, c64, ZX Spectrum 128, Amstrad CPC464, Atari 65XE, Commodore Plus/4, Amiga 500
PC's from XT 8088, 486, Pentium MMX, K6, Athlon, P3, P4, 775, to current Ryzen 5600x.

You're right, but I believe Stojke is asking if it is possible to upgrade 8-bit XT-IDE to support AT-IDE hard disks instead
of XT-IDE hard disk (which CF cards are often compatible with).

I saw some bios edits that enable AT disk support of large capacity. The computer I want to do this mod on is an Philips NMS9100. It also has an integrated IDE-XT interface.

Btw, I've found contradicting information regarding that machine.
Is your model an XT or an AT model ?

I see, that's good. Unfortunately, I don't own any XT-IDE stuff so I can't say anything about the matter.
I do own an EPROM programmer, though. So if you need a custom BIOS chip for XT-IDE, just tell. 😀

I’ve often wondered if you just ran the wires from the AT ide ribbon cable to the matched XT IDE wires on the motherboard leaving the upper 8 bits NC if you would just get a half capacity ide drive?
