Just use the on board IDE controller and your be fine.

If you can get it up to 66mhz, some controllers can take that.

How about a HDD? Which of them will be suitable?

Normally whatever you can find, but for this era I suggest 20-40ish GB in size. The type doesn't matter, as after the controller, the PCI bus speed doesn't affect drives.
