Hi there, my first post here. (i'm from portugal, my english is not great so sorry for that in advance).

I have a sharp pc-4600 - yes is a laptop - (model 4602), witch is a necv40 10mhz i8088 clone, with no hard-drive and two 720kb floppy drives.

theres the model 4610 witch is exacly the same as above but wit either a 20MB HD or a 40MB HD.

Now, i do not own a service manual for this computer and i was unable to find one for this model (well i did but is on several pay sites).

Meanwhile i have como across a full functional quantum Go Drive with 40MB space.. .

Is it possible to use this hard-drive and install it on the sharp ?? i mean, the sharp dont seens to use standart cables (i said that because considering the floppy drive cabes, they dont have a power plug, the data cable sends the power and the data.), and probably in order to the computer to know theres a hard-drive installed there's some resistor or capacitador i have to solder on the board...

Does anyone have an ideia ? thanks..

I've installed a i8087 co-processor and a tantallum capacitator that had exploded...

meanwhile, i notice that i had a cracked transistor (lm8050j), and ordered it for replacement..

so.. i will post news on the repairs soon,

but does someone outthere has a service manual for this portable computer ???

please ?

Probably a bit late, but I had a Tantalum cap go 'poof' and was looking around for the service manual. You can find it for free here: https://arvutimuuseum.ee/portables/download/0 … vice_Manual.pdf

I just got mine, and the cap let loose about five seconds after powering it on. No big thing (I hope).

Edit: I must be tired. This is the Service manual for the PC-4600: https://ia802305.us.archive.org/19/items/manu … SM_SHARP_EN.pdf

To be specific, it is the diagnostics and not the schematics as far as I can tell. Hope this helps, and sorry for any confusion.

And I am still looking for the disassembly instructions as well as the schematics. Thanks!

And... here it is: https://archive.org/details/manual_PC4602_SM_SHARP_EN

I have the same machine (PC-4600, with HD).. I used it for some (slow) EPROM programmers that do not work on faster machines..
Because of some screeching noises from HD (when head is moving) , I would like to replace it with CF card.. (I did that for my Stylistic st1000, now it is faster than ever 😀 )
Anyone did that for Sharp?
